TT is quite right: I was referring to the Ju.87B/R subtypes.

“I used to think it a shame the Hendon Halifax never got fully restored but when I saw it again a few years ago it struck me that it made a poignant exhibit showing how something as big and powerful can be reduced to a bit of wreckage by war. “

I would agree with you if there was a restored example in the museum…or anywhere in the UK.

The crews, designers and builders of one  the RAFs leading types deserve to be remembered by an aircraft as they flew it, not a (slightly) morbid piece of wreckage that comes across as something the museum, service or country, don’t want to be bothered to properly restore and display.

The Canadians, who flew many (most?) of them apparently agree…theirs is properly restored despite a crewmember losing his life when the ship was lost.

“By all means use the parts as patterns for a new build in a similar to the Flugwerk FW190s”

Something I’ve dreamed of for a long time, although being a B/R fan I’d go with scanning the Chicago example (which I think was done a few years back?). I reckon they’d sell a couple – maybe not 12, but I expect the market would be there!

I guess they will be working closely with the former Flying Heritage Collection – not least because presumably they have a lot of the CAD data they used in their reconstruction thus far which should speed things up considerably I would have thought?

Given the relatively small amount of potentially flight worthy structure in that Stuka I tend to agree with Sabrejet. I think I would rather see a conservation of those parts with a new centre section etc fabricated and have it as a static exhibit given the rarity of Stukas. By all means use the parts as patterns for a new build in a similar to the Flugwerk FW190s but please don’t destroy an important artifact to get to the relatively small percentage of useable items.

I might be wrong about the amount of useable parts but given it’s been sat in a lake for a considerable time I can’t image too much could be reused.

I used to think it a shame the Hendon Halifax never got fully restored but when I saw it again a few years ago it struck me that it made a poignant exhibit showing how something as big and powerful can be reduced to a bit of wreckage by war. Sat there a relic amongst all the well restored and maintained exhibits added to the effect.

Anyway, The Stuka is not mine so they are entitled to do what they want 🙁

Great news if it comes to fruition.

I used to be excited by these news items. Now I just assume that another artefact will be destroyed so that its identity can be stolen. One day it will be different but it will be too late for many.
