New to Flying Legends – advice?

Hi all,

After spending a considerable time at the joystick with Il-2 FB, I thought it was time to see the real thing(s) in action so I’ll be off to FL on Saturday. It’ll be my first time to Duxford…so….

Any tips from you veterans on where best to park/stand/what will happen if the weather is not so good/best ‘order’ to go and see things in etc? Also, is the traffic usually very bad? Is it best to get there *really* early? (like before 8am) to park?

Thanks in advance

Regards,
BF_Xenomorph

less crowded than the rest of Duxford..

That is, of course a relative term… Though if the sun don’t shime am, the great washed won’t bother as that’s the weather forecast they do. If it continues grey that’s just too bad…

Nice pics BTW. Last one – “Shall we dance?”

I agree with JDK & Tuck – elevated bank to the west of Land Warfare is an excellent viewpoint for the display (especially with an easterly wind and runway 06 in use). On top of the bank you get a clear view over the whole airfield and generally less crowded than the rest of Duxford..

We stood there last year but it was tip toes and very crowded, here are some photos i took from there last year,

On top of the bank you get a clear view over the whole airfield and generally less crowded than the rest of Duxford. If you can, aim to arrive from the west, on the A505, and then you should park somewhere behind land Warfare (unless, of course, parking arrangements have totally changed) I usually arrive 10am, and rarely have any problem queuing.
Whatever you do allow time for the Flightline Walk – a modest fee (£3 ish) allows close access to the participants.

I always get there at 6.45 am, (i camp near by). I also park front row on the bank in front of the Land Warfare Hall and view from that side. I find that the best spot now, i also used to go to the other side but it has been changed now and can get quite packed.
If it does rain then there is plenty to do and see. Before you know it the days gone, but sunday isnt far away.

It was my first time last year, arrived at about 10.30 and had no problems parking. It’ll be the same for me this year.

I belive the earlier you arrive the better the viewing can be as they drag the various flying contraptions out from their overnight storage, and prepare them for the days flying.

Hi,
Sadly there’s no IL-2s at DX, but a couple of tips are:

Get there early. There’s loads to see, as well as the show.

I personally find standing on the bank by the Land Warfare Hall at the Western end of the airfield gives a good view of the action and some decent photographoic oportunities. The other end used to be good, but is less so now. Anywhere in the middle is packed, but in the very centre you can see the a/c taxi in and out. Whatever, depending on the weather you should have a great time!

Cheers / Salut
