[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-03-02 AT 04:23 PM (GMT)]Virgin Atlantic have applied for new routes to mainly Australia from LHR to Sydney,Melbourne,Perth,Adelaide and Baltimore USA.They have also applied for slots to San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles from Manchester and San Diego from Gatwick.Routes will be operated most probably with 747-400’s and the new A340-600s.
I also heard rumours or Myrtle beach,Dubai and Riyahd though nothing confirmed.

RE: Virgin Blue routes..in future.
I see that Perth landed the extra route offerd in Australia to Emirates for its one stop service to Europe via Ddubai.Perth is a popular departyre point to europe
the fares from the west coast are hundreds of dollars cheaper than flying from the east coast

Virgin Blue routes..in future.
It won’t be long before Virgin Blue has new Pacific Routes! VB plans to have 50% of the Australian domestic market by 2005-10, and is also looking to expand O/S. I would expect such expansion to start with the local routes such as Indonesia, the Pacific Islands, and New Zealand, and from there who knows?
Regards, Glenn.

RE: New Virgin Atlanic routes
I wouldn’t worry about it, shauny…
At the moment they’re just applications. They won’t feasibly be operating until at least the middle of june, but more likely the winter timetable…

RE: New Virgin Atlanic routes
Where will be there techinal stop over point?Surely SIN would be the best place due to the tie up VS has with SQ.Maybe Shanghai or Hong Kong could also be two possible stopover points into Australia.

Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide???
Surely Brisbane and Cairns would have more demand for flights than PER and ADL! That’s very strange indeed. (Ok, maybe I am based because I am from near Brisbane, hehe)
Goodbye

RE: New Virgin Atlanic routes
it does not make any difference
fares are cheap enough from here to europe as it is
same a/c makes no difference if you have to change a/c in a different country yous till have the stop off so change of a/c makes little difference

RE: New Virgin Atlanic routes
Agreed, they’ll do their best to create synergies.
But that will only be incidental to the Aussie routes, not a reason for them.

RE: New Virgin Atlanic routes
I’m not so sure.
Virgin atlantic and Virgin blue are segmentally positioned quite differently.
The business models of each seem fairly different to me.

RE: New Virgin Atlanic routes
Great news.
I am pleased to here about the proposed routes to Australia. The competition with airlines such as BA and Qantas (the only direct a/c operators from LHR to Australia) will bring prices down, making trips to Oz cheaper for us! (although this displeases me slightly as Qantas is my fav. airline!!)
Virgin will certainly be doing well in Australia, With flights between the UK and oz and then the opertunity for connections with Virgin blue. Its all pretty obvious now!!

RE: New Virgin Atlanic routes
Great to hear some very good news from Virgin. A bit surprised that they are looking into flights from Manchester as they have never really been interested outside London, although this is excellent.
I heard a few years ago that the LA and San Fran routes were the busiest for Virgin and maybe they get a lot of connection traffic from MAN. It would be great to see the A340-600 at Manchester reguarly, photos are very hard to get at Heathrow.
Also more flights from the UK to the US, another sign that things are really picking up now, more great news!

RE: New Virgin Atlanic routes
I’m really upset to find this out.
Because I am going to Los Angeles with Virgin on the 1st April, and I am having to go by train the night before from Hull which is a total pain.
Agh well, at least I will get to see some more interesting aircraft.
