New York, New York! (WARNING: Big Post!)

Hi all,

In case some of you didnt know, or perhaps wondered why I have not been on for a while, it is because I had the pleasure of spending the most of February in New York on a training course in preparation for my new Ticket Desk job at LHR!

I must apologise in advance because I did not do any spotting or photography of aircraft (even though our hotel was right next to Newark Airport!), as I decided to use my free time to explore New York City itself

However, I thought I would share a few photos that I took.

I must say that as it was my first time going to New York, it is a wonderful city, and I will definately be visiting again!

In no particular order…

The signpost at the intersection of 5th Ave and Broadway:

A black and white image of The Flatiron Building, just one of the many famous landmarks in NYC!:

Another image of The Flatiron Building:

The Brooklyn Bridge:

Whilst in NYC, we experienced the bitter cold winter…and some snow (5in in places!); this image was taken through the window of the training centre at Newark Airport:

Inside Grand Central Station (what an amazing building!):

Times Square:

The Empire State Building:

The Empire State Building – again!:

The Supreme Court:

And a trip to New York would not be complete without seeing the Statue of Liberty (taken from the Staten Island Ferry!):

And finally, this image is of no particular importance, I just took it because I liked how the sun was reflecting off the glass:

Hope you liked them!

Any comments would be great!

I recommend the Rockerfella over the Empire state as there is no queues at all.

Very nice, joining CO I assume?

No I am not working for CO directly, I am in fact working for a ground handling company that will be handling CO when they begin their services out of LHR at the end of the month.

The photo of EWR was quite cool and i bet they did get planes out. If we would of had that at LHR it would of been Utter Chaos:rolleyes:

Indeed Jet22, that is what we were saying over there when we saw how bad it was, but the interesting thing is that unlike the UK, the Americans act as soon as they know the weather is going to be bad, so they were actually out on the ramp/apron gritting several days beforehand! And on the day the snow came, things just carried on as normally as they could. There were not that many cancellations, just long delays…

Just what the HELL is that ‘thing’ thats hanging off the 5th Ave sign in the first pic? It looks like a dead, decomposing rodent!

The honest answer to that that question is I dont know, and didnt even realise it was there until you mentioned it…lol. Answers on a postcard to…:D

New York?! For training?! For a job in London? Eh? Someone needs to explain that to me; and in some detail!

Excellent shots though, hehe. I spent quite some time looking at the pic of the Statue of Liberty, and made me realise that its perhaps one of most over-looked, under-stated ‘attractions’ in NY – people look at it, without really studying it and learning about what and why its there. It really is quite stunning, and I hope to see it myself in August!

Crew Base: NYC

Nice Place to visit or layover; I wouldn’t want to be based or live there!! Unfortunately Eastern Airlines thought differently and I was based there 4 different times in my career. ARGGHH! 😮

Lucky you got to go to EWR for training

There isn’t anything lucky about going to EWR. They don’t call it Sewark for nothing. 😉

Looks like you had some great weather for your trip to NYC as well as some bad weather in NYC. It’s been 2 years since I’ve made it to Manhattan so your pictures have given me the bug to go back. Now if there was only some way to get there without needing to go through EWR or LGA. 😀
