Newark Air Museum Briefing – 2018

It’s time to start a 2018 Newark Air Museum Briefing thread, through which I will endeavour to keep people advised of the day to day activities at NAM.

Again on behalf of everyone at Newark Air Museum I would just like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who visited in 2017 and supported the museum events and activities.

Details will continue to be added both here and to the – Latest News Page on the NAM website.

Also, details about the other events such as the Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble Table Top Sale – 3 March 2018; etc. can be found on the Events Page here!

Happy New Year everyone and at a convenient time would it be possible for a kindly Mod to lock the 2017 Briefing thread?

Final reminder for now, NAM is shut today, Monday 1st January, but back open at 10am on Tuesday 2nd January.

We expect this to be popular! Details of the #ThanksToYou offer can be found in here!

This year NAM is taking part in #ThanksToYou campaign that is being organised by the Heritage Lottery Fund! If you take National Lottery ticket or scratch card with you to NAM on 8 & 9 December, you will receive FREE admission to the museum.

Here are the details of the offer that is specific to NAM http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/ThanksToYou

Other special offers at other venues all over the UK can be found on their interactive map: https://www.hlf.org.uk/thankyou/map

Also, the following message appeared earlier this evening on the NAM Twitter feed, which might interest some people on here!

“These ‘Bath Tub’ style Morse Keys (in original boxes) are an example of the non-accessed ‘deep stores’ items that we’ll be offering on our #Aeroboot #Aerojumble table next April! www.newarkairmuseum.org/Spring_Aeroboot Face to face #aviation trading – may aid projects before then!”

Look out for Newark Air Museum and its World War II era ROC Post in today’s edition of Bargain Hunt that comes from the Runway Monday event that takes place on Vulcan Way (ex RAF Winthorpe runway where Vulcan XM594 landed on 7 Feb 1983) – due to air at 12.15 on BBC One.

There’s a good chance to look inside NAM’s Vulcan on Saturday, as noted elsewhere:

“Pleased to report open cockpit sessions tomorrow on Vulcan XM594 at the museum; timed tickets in operation to allow you time to see the rest of the collection & some restrictions apply specific details in here!

NAM is looking for parts for its Hunter T7 restoration and the following request was circulated earlier today:

“As part of the ongoing restoration work on Hunter T7 XX467 we now have an up to date list of missing parts that are needed for the project; please let us know if you think that you might be able to help source any of the missing bits.”

I’m happy to pass on any fresh leads.

The Shackleton Boys book launch went really well this weekend and in case anyone didn’t make the event and would like a signed copy I am reliably informed copies are available from the Museum Shop.

Now regrouping to get moving with the final arrangements for the next museum event, which is the Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble sale on Saturday 13th October!

I thought that this item from NAM might be interest to some people:

“The museum trustees have decided to investigate the possibility of organising further Day / Night Shoot events in 2019.

The museum is currently investigating potential dates in February/March 2019 and October 2019. The aim would be to fix dates quite quickly and to try not to clash with other aviation Night Shoots.

Full details in here & people would need to resubmit their contact details via the weblink.

Information about any potential clashes with other events already booked would be appreciated!”

Some nice images there from the 1940s Weekend event – the Lancaster flypast on Saturday was one of the best I’ve ever witnessed at Newark Air Museum; a very evocative few minutes!

I was hoping that the RAF flag would have fluttered a bit more here

And a happy looking MiG

I received confirmation earlier today from the BBMF for Saturday’s Lancaster flypast at NAM’s 1940s Weekend, this included a slightly revised provisional timing advised & is subject to the usual weather & serviceability caveats!
