Newark Air Museum from a Monopod-26Apr11

My last few visits to the Newark Air Museum have been for the excellent Night Photo Shoots so a day time photo shoot was overdue. I arrived just after doors opened, East Coast trains running late again. Apart from a few panorama shots, all photos were taken from waving my camera in the air from the end of my long, over 6ft, monopod. After the heat wave of the previous few days, the weather had turned cloudy, windy and cold. Glad I took my gloves with me. As is the way of things, when I got back into Newark to catch my train home, they were still running late, the clouds parted there was blue sky and the sun shone.

Sony Alpha 580 set to AUTO to let the camera work out the shutter/aperture/ISO, and a Sony 11-18mm wide angle lens.

The structure is complex and a couple of weeks ago we found out from Australia that the last known set of plans / manuals was only disposed of in the early 1990s when someone’s house was cleared after a bereavement – what a difference they would have made!

πŸ˜€ The Dominie model gets watered every other day just in case it can be transformed into a real one!! πŸ˜‰

That Monospar’s really coming together nicely. What a complex structure!
Also, nice to see from Pic 2 that the Dominie acquisition went ahead, even if it was delivered a bit smaller than planned!

Anyone know where the Harvard came from? Is it the old bitsa that used to be at Harrington?

Originally yes – due into the Workshop, once the Meteor NF14 emerges in its new paintwork!! πŸ™‚

Good stuff Brian, thanks for sharing. Great to see the new paint on the MiG, and that Monospar is a superb peice of work!

Nice work Brian – the Vulcan view highlights why it’s on ‘the painting to do list!’ πŸ™‚
