It’ll be a pleasure – I hadn’t noticed your location until this morning; I was in Montreal last August visiting relatives; plus an extended holiday there in 1975 and watching loads of Twin Otters come in to land at the airport is where my forum name derives from!!

Thank you TwinOtter. I will let you know and will take you up on that guided tour offer 🙂

Yes you get a very good welcome here, and T/O and other workers on the site are extremely helpful and willing to accommodate requests from enthusiastic visitors.
I will post some of my shots up sometime, but they are no where near as imaginative as cgull’s offerings.

If you let me know when you’re about to visit I’ll try and arrange for the red carpet to be out; pagen knows the form – at least I could arrange a short guided tour! 🙂
We’re also very proud of our Canadian connections in Newark with both personnel training at 1661 HCU at RAF Winthorpe and those that served at RAF Balderton, RAF Syerston etc.

wiseman – pleased to assist, Newark Air Museum fought a long battle with the taxman to make it all happen back in 1976/7! 😉
Thanks. I definitely want to spend some time at this museum when I visit the UK.

Many thanks T/O explained something that has been nagging me for years!

😮 As you’ve probably realised by now engines have never been my strongpoint – less subtlety in future me thinks!
As for the Mysteres et al they were funded by the Lend Lease Programme – circa 1947 US Secretary of State, Gen George Marshall was negotiating with the Soviets, when talks stalled – US then offered assistance programmes to willing European countries, which the Soviets named the ‘Marshall Plan’.
Basically the F100s, T33s, Mysteres etc were funded by the US and they reclaimed them. In the UK each one is technically on a 99 year loan from the USAF and each year photos and a report has to be submitted to Dayton re their condition. As an interesting aside – all of the ‘challenging’ materials were removed a long time before they became contentious here!! 😉

And me!

I think one giveaway is that generally the HT leads are fed from the front on these, and from the rear on the Hercules.
One thing I never got was the involvement of the USAF and the preserved Mysteres in the UK?

pagen – you may well be correct; perhaps the OP can advise. If it’s in the Engine Display he’s taken more care of the white balance than I normally do!! 😀

There are several Mystere IV’s in UK collections thanks to a USAF disposal scheme in the 1970s – some interesting pictures in this old thread including the Mystere IV pictured on this current photo thread! 🙂
Had no idea. Very interesting. Thanks.

I could be wrong, but it looks like a Centaurus to me (Hercules similar but detail differences), and judging by the background it looks like it is in the engines hall?
Either way, an excellent picture!:)

 The post was intended to tantalise and was referring to the detailed engine shot of what I thought was the ‘Bristol Hercules’ engine (if that’s what the picture is) on the Varsity (not the Hastings fuselage photograph).
I’ve taken a similar shots looking through one of the ‘exhaust vent panels’ on the engine cowling (4th photo in on the Varsity section of Empedia) but I’ve never gone in that close.

I like the ‘Varsity’ shot – I’ve never seen it as detailed as that!! 😉
Or is it the Hastings?!;)
My favourite pic is the Centaurus engine shot very imaginative and effective.:)

Very nice pix and a great crisp day for perfect colors.
I’m surprised to see the Mystère IV – must be a rare one.
Thanks.
