Yo MoggyC….being a saddo…I have both versions…..Pussy Palmer…..not a particularly kind nickname….did not make it to the BoB sadly. I will try to find more. He was shot down at least twice in France. Second bale out some French soldiers used him for target practice. Fighter Pilot is such a good book.

Not at all old chap.
Always good to ‘meet’ another devotee of the World’s finest fictional fighter pilot 🙂
Freeborn throwing the book at the wall does seem a very ‘Moggy’ gesture.
Paul Richey of course always held that the whole of Hornet Squadron was based on No1 Sqd as protrayed in his, initially, anonymous book ‘Fighter Pilot’. Indeed referring to my well-thumbed 1942 copy of that epic one of the pictures does include a pilot nicknamed ‘Pussy’. (Anyone got a more modern copy; I believe it was later revised with the real names in?)
Welcome anyway. I can’t get up to Newark that weekend, but I wish you every success. Sounds like a worthwhile event.

Moggy Junior
Apologises Moggy C, intended homage to favourite character in Piece of Cake gone slighty pear shaped.
email address should be bill_osullivan@hotmail.com for info. on Newark event.
Always wondered who Derek Robinson based his character on, told John Freeborn he was probably in mind. Apparently John threw the novel at his bedroom wall whilst reading it. Must have touched a nerve.
