(P.S. His name is Gwyndaf and I take him everywhere I go.)

Errrr Mark, the first photo on the 2008 page shows what looks alarmingly like a camouflage sheep in the foreground.

Just what do you lot get up to at CockpitFest! :diablo:

For what little my opinion is worth, three of us are already laying plans to attend next year with two sea hawk cockpits – one restored, one not (yet) – and the reason for the effort is to meet up with like-minded people and hopefully put faces to the e-mail and forum names of people we’ve come to know over the years. I also understand that there might be some beer there :diablo:

Excellent news Roy. Looking forward to it already! 🙂

Absolutely spot on.

Even though you have pin pointed my love and affection for pig in a bun and the vital fluid of social life i.e beer! I have to agree with MarkG, athough it pains me to say it!!
By the way Mark T, I told you your efforts were worthy of such recognition, just watch yourself next year, I am on a mission for next time!!

Richy.

It’s not bitching, it’s discussion.

Now it is established, Cockpitfest has an atmosphere all of it’s own. I’ve been to most of ’em and the next one never comes quick enough (yet, when it arrives goes too quickly!) It gets better by the year.
The gang I was with all feel exactly the same way and we now use the event as a get-together as the original group is now dispersed.
Thoughts of a warm summer afternoon surrounded by aeroplanes and friends is certainly food for the soul in the depths of winter.
Hurrah for Cockpitfest, I say!

Hello all , think i’am going to put my 2 penny worth in now. I took my dad to this event for the first time this year and loved every moment of it [apart from the rain:rolleyes:] I went to this with an open mind and i was’nt dissapointed, my first love is Lightnings and it was great to see one of Neils there, you could see the amount of effort that had gone into these nose sections. I got speaking to the owner of the macaw Jet provest and his story was great [ i never thougt that i would become a fan of a JP but i was won over],the whole day felt like a family affair ….. don’t let bitching about prizes spoil this great event:)
Me and my dad will be back next year [hopefully with a nose section]:p

Hurrah for Cockpitfest! ! !

Hurrah for Cockpitfest!

I TOTALLY agree with the comments made at post #78 by Ross McNeill. We do it because we just want to and because its FUN.

It costs us all time, money and effort and we dont begrudge a moment of it.

For those of you out there considering comming next year on the 10th event, GO ON, GIVE IT A GO….. if you dont like it, dont do it again…but im sure you will have a great time ….. just like the rest of us.

ANYTHING AVIATION and you’re in!

Cockpitfest

Lots of good healthy comment there.

Regarding prizes: I think you will find this begins with Bill O’Sullivan and his idea and desire ten years ago to get cockpitters together. He had the idea that he would offer the incentive of a prize to those who bothered to attend. Don’t forget that ten-odd years ago when Cockpitfest was but a germ of an idea there was no guarantee that ANYONE was going to turn up at the first one let alone the fact that the whole show could have been a one-hit wonder.
The fact that next year is the tenth “Fest” is testament not only to Bill’s hard work but, perhaps, that the possibility of a prize was there to be won too.
Joe Public will vote for the Big Shiny Modern cockpit but the award for the Cockpitters Cockpit must be the true indicator of a worthwhile and successful project.
There’s no-one other than a dyed-in-the-wool aircraft restorer who will cast a more critical eye over someone elses project and see it for what it is (or isn’t). This, arguably, is the prize worth having.
I think the prizes are a good idea. It makes no difference to the event and is, I think, a bonus. It has appeared to me that all prize winners have deserved their prizes over the years. All the cockpitters will have put a great deal of time and expense into their projects and some may feel a little aggrieved at not winning. This is only natural but is not, in my opinion, any reason to discontinue the prizes.
Personally, the possibility of winning a prize has made me go the extra mile in detail and presentatiion of my project. I believe it has helped to establish the event and raise the overall quality of the projects. Long may the prizes continue.
