Newark Cockpit Fest

In what way separate? are the cockpits left outside under tarpaulins, or leaky lean-to garages? who pays for the initial purchase(and transport)? are they worked on out in the back gardens of individuals?

Some cockpits are outside. However, the main thing is that the cockpits are bought and paid for by members/the museum….it receives no funding…the members are volunteers like you and me….no multi million pounds available!

Which of them is a ‘a multi million pound establishment (with full workshop facilities)’ Stu old chap? Certainly not BDAC…..because it is seperate from those facilities and does not have access to them.

Peter , with all due respect the “Jack Russell Team” were too busy talking to everyone to get time to look round; sorry that they didn’t make the Hog Roast though! Perhaps next year!!

It’s also come to light that Herb Warne trained at RAF Winthorpe with 1661 HCU; it was featured in the May issue of the museum newsletter.

There is nothing on the web unfortunately but I do have a folder on the computer with the information on, if I can work out how to do it, I’ll try and send it to you.

Thanks Peter, we didn’t realise until we saw the copy of the Pilots logbook that the crew were at Winthorpe briefly on 1661 HCU’s before they were posted to Syerston…so nice connection. It also helped with the twins being home from UNI and doing the graphics for us!

I believe cockpit 24 was Meteor F8 WK914 from Millom.

Mizpah, sadly I don’t believe any of the Mick Jennings cockpits were on site – perhaps next year!

We had a great time in Hanger 2 with our display, met some fantastic people who were very helpful and advised us where to continue our research along different lines.

We didn’t know about the Hog Roast until it was too late..but it sounded great fun…and next year we WILL look round all the cockpits, as we realise we’ve really missed out!

Great job on the Anson cockpit Ross! It is good to see a canadian Anson being restored. I am pleased that the tornade won the prize as it is a stunning cockpit, does anyone know if it is going to be installed on a trailer for dislpay? Looked kind of sad sitting on the ground?

We visited the Norwich Aviation Museum on Sunday and didn’t see them there. Had they made the trip to Newark?

I dont have a full list of the participants to hand, but the joint winners were:

The Douglas DB8A/3N won the cockpiters award.

The Meteor is the ex Rochester/Duxford/Isle of Wight/Duxford F8 WK914.
