Hi folks.I’m new to these forums and i am looking for some information regarding the above. After looking at some decals on the net i found a set from Watermark decals and included in the set were two very unusual paint schemes for BS119(2 tone grey) and W 3131(dark earth/ocean grey). As i am currently building different schemes i would be interested in building these two so i was just wondering if anyone has any further info. on these two aircraft please. Many thanks.

The Watermark decals appeared at about the same time the book ‘Spitfire – The Canadians’ did.

The decals cover many of the same schemes illustrated in the books and while I never asked the question I always assumed there was some tie-up between them. Friends of mine in Canada rated the books highly and thought well of the major contributors, so I’ve assumed the content to be reliable.

Many thanks for the replies folks,i feel i should have added that the sheet claims they were RCAF aircraft and as you say a mk ix and the only time i have seen anything in the dark earth/ocean grey it has been on Israeli machines.

BS119 is usually illustrated in the standard day Fighter scheme on other sheets, however the pilot is noted as claiming it was finished in greys:
I always note that Ocean Grey appears very light in some photos

Ah! BS199…a Spitfire Survivor

Correct: a change of reading glasses suggests BS199 was RAAF. I missed BS119 because it was an early Mk.IX, and not listed in the Mk.Vs. However, the comments on the camouflage remain the same.

BS119 is listed as RAAF,… .
That does not sound right.

BS119 is listed as RAAF, so that colours scheme seems very unlikely. W3131 served with two units, again standard schemes seem most likely. There were experiments with 2-tone greys before the Day Fighter Scheme was adopted, but not on these two aircraft as far as I know.
You might get a fuller response on the Britmodeller site, which has a number of well-informed Spitfire modellers and enthusiasts.
