Hi everyone,I’m new to the forum, after finding it by accident a few days ago.
My interest in WW2 aircraft, came literally by accident, after I was involved in a serious road accident 4 1/2 years ago which nearly cost me my life.Like a certain Sir Douglas Bader,I recovered, and went on to do other things, namely compete in motorsport, outside of work.
My association with WW2 aircraft came about 15 months ago, when I started to look more deeply into the guys that fought for our freedom all those years ago.I went to East Kirby to see Just Jane, and became hooked.I was lucky enough to see 3 of the BBMF aircraft earlier this year, and boy,was I mesmerised. So much so,I saw 3 of them again just recently at Elvington.
However, with my other interest of Autograss racing, the club with which I race at,are having a 2 day national championship event next weekend, which is round 5 of 5,and I tried to think of a different way to entertain our visitors at Blyton airfield.
With just a passing remark to my wife along the lines of, ‘I wonder if the BBMF would lend me one of the planes for our 2 day weekend,’ I did some research, which led me to writing to Strike Command at High Wycombe with a very late request.
And I’m pleased to announce that next Saturday,at 12.35pm,the BBMF Lancaster PA474,will,en route to Grimsby, from Lichfield,be passing over our venue at 300 feet.
Needless to say,my committee are thrilled to bits, about my endeavour, and we are hoping for fine weather. As well as the flypast, there will be 2 days of fine motor racing with an admission cost of £7 Saturday, and £8 Sunday.

Sorry for the delay in replying guys.
The flypast went very well actually. She arrived some 15 minutes early, and went past at 300 feet.
We got 3 circuits out of her,and a lot of people enjoyed the moment.

Quinny, How did it go?
The weather wasn’t brilliant on Saturday, but I did see her to the north of Leicester at about 11:45, flying below the clag and drizzle.
Hope it went well.
Regards,
Paul

Indeed you are correct Geoff.
I phoned Flt.Lt.Jack Hawkins last Monday,at Coningsby just to make sure that what I had asked for,was definitely going ahead, and I’m pleased to say the news was positive.
So there’s an air of excitement at Blyton at the moment, and all it needs now is a fine weekend.
As the saying goes in Yorkshire, ‘If you don’t ask,you don’t get.’ And before anyone points out.Yorkshire is actually where I live, not Lincolnshire.

just goes to show what happens when you try, rather than going “Nah, it’ll never happen.” well done that man.
Welcome to the forum. It’s a great loony hatch, and the inmates are very knowledgable. I’m just here for the weather. What weather? Exactly. (Rained out of Biggin toda. Chiz.) Hope your PA474 visit gets some sun.
