Newcastle Aero Club

As many of you know I have flying lessons at my local, the Newcastle Aero Club. Today, I recieved a letter, and sadly they are in debt and are in a very bad position. They are in debt of around £100,000 and have an annual turnover of £500,000 a year. They have 500 members (including me) which means £200 a member would more than likely cover the cost of the debt, so my donation, is a flying lesson on Sunday at 10:30am at NCL, so I hope all goes well for the longest living Aero Club in the country. It’s got me on a right downer at the minute, as it’s probably my most favorable place in the whole world. If the Newcastle Aero Club is forced to close, this means no more flying lessons will be about at Newcastle anymore, meaning I would more than likely have to go to Teesside or Carlisle, which are both more than 30 miles away. It opened in July 1925, so it would also be known as the longest living aero club in the whole of the United Kingdom. Good luck to them. Just thought I’d let you all know.
Regards,
Ben. 🙁

So, do you believe Captainben just posted this thread as a laugh, Danairboy?? I believe, he posted it as it is something personal to him and it is aviation related – and there are a few people on the forum who else it might be relevant to or mean something to, as is a forum’s wont! What makes you believe that Captainben’s posting is inaccurate? Just because you can’t believe that no flying clubs are on the brink of bankruptcy, doesn’t mean that some aren’t. You just sound bitter and twisted making remarks like that.

I wish to reiterate others’ comments recently on another thread and ask: why do you do nothing but bloody well moan constantly on here and question other forum members posts on this forum, usually without nothing more than your own (often negative) opinions to back up your claims? It’s just all wearing a bit thin now.

Captainben, please accept my apologies for this post being on your thread. I for one am grateful for your post informing us of the NCL Aero Club’s position.

No need to apologise mate, there’s no worries 🙂
Danairboy, I think if you want to stay on this forum, you’d better buck your ideas up, sounds like you on thin ice. And by the way, you say Aero Club’s have ‘posh silver spoons for whom money isn’t a worry to’. For your information mate, what the hell has cutlery got to do with flying? 😡

Indeed, I also wish Newcastle Aero Club all the best, hope it gets through it.

DanAirBoy- Please stick to thread topics in future instead, of non stop moaning.

For your ordniary working man, flying clubs are way too expensive. I have visited a few and they seem full of silver-spoons for whom money isnt a worry as daddy foots the bill. I cant believe any are on the verge of bankruptcy they all seem to be onto a nice little earner!

Oh dear. Is this a case of true colours coming out? It is not a class issue but your apprent discomfort with your partners expenditure at flying clubs has obviously left you bitter.

I don’t know the financial circumstances behind Newcastle’s problems and I suspect you don’t either. What I will say is that I wish them and their members well and hope they can continue to operate. A person having a silver spoon in their mouth is no different to me having a Black Country accent. Take people for what they are and not what some tisted perception of society tells you they are and the world would be a better place.

I’ve spoken to quite a few of the pilots who visit Key fora, and I haven’t found a single silver spoon yet.

Its a real shame about the aeroclub, I never visited it like, but I have heard a lot about it. Hope it continues to run after all these years.

Please dont get me started on flying clubs. My partner has spent 10s of thousands of pounds gaining him PPL, IMC etc. and all the hours and hours hes spent flying since.

Its his hobby, he isnt short of a bob or too and its up to him I suppose but when I think of all that money and what we could have done together, thee places we could have visited, I get more than a little annoyed. Especially since if I treat myself to a book or DVD he moans I am wasting money!

Oh no! Not the Aero Club – jeez! Last time I was in there was about March and it seemed to have had a revamp in the bar area (and has it been reduced in size too?? The pool table area didn’t seem to be there, like it used to be). I used to go there most lunchtimes when I worked at Gill and spent my lunch hour happily watching the planes come and go. This is when my real interest in aviation became serious enough to start being able to identify aircraft types etc.

Long live Newcastle Aero Club (wasn’t it originally the terminal for NCL all those years ago?). It’s bad enough with Gill gone from NCL, not the Aero Club too – pleeeeeaaase! 😮
