Mrs Waco and I are off to Cornwall next month.
Mrs Waco has always wanted to see the Eden Project.
Soooooooooooo I’m looking for some aviation sites to see in Cornwall after the Igloo visit.
Can you get on the 1-11 & VC-10 at Newquay ?
Thanks for your time !

Thank you “Sea King 93”, interesting to know before I’m next down in September for the first time in two years that I can at least park there still.

……………. or from the north close to the excellent IHM helicopter museum at Weston-super-Mare.
I’ve been beaten to recommending the Davidstow Museum. Interesting place.
There is the privately displayed Lightning at Liskeard, somehow over 3 visits to the area in 4 years I’ve missed it each time, although told I simply cannot miss it! ‘Spitfire Corner’ is unmissable on the inland end of Newquay Airport’s runway.
Depending on your interests, the GA fields at Bodmin (N of the town) and Perranporth (SE of Newquay) may be worth dropping into, I’ve always found them friendly places. Casual access to Lands End/St.Just is a little more restricted due to handling commercial flights, but it is fun watching the Islanders buzzing around. I’m told, but not verified that the cafe and car park beside the runway end at RNAS Culdrose is now closed. Is it?
The cafe has been removed but the car park is still open for use, mind you currently the base is on ‘block leave’ so there won’t be a great deal to see apart from the Sea Kings of 771NAS

He is. Six of us had lunch together and he shows no signs of his advancing years mentally. He is still acute and absolutely on top line.
When I joked with him about his inability to recall the name of an armourer “Come on Geoffrey, It’s only seventy years ago” I was rewarded with a two-finger salute. Not the one Churchill popularised.

It was far better meeting Geoffrey Wellum in a pub on The Lizard
*Jealously removes Moggy from Christmas card list*
If his letter to me was anything to go by, he was a genuinely nice bloke.

Suggestions that “the smaller museum” at Davidstow is closed are incorrect. The RAF Memorial Museum at Davidstow is open from 1030 daily, I rang them five minutes ago to confirm. Worth a visit and good value for money, I agree the Eden Project is a bit expensive but will be full of tourists today on a very wet morning here in Cornwall.
Thank you for clarifying that…..I am pleased to hear it

In reply to a query here, the café at the Viewing Area at Culdrose has not only closed but the building has been demolished. The car park remains open.

Ex RAF Davidstow is a must I went there last year, a great little museum and if you can go on the airfield tour it is superb.
Mark.

Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre is not open yet but if you give us a ring on the number on the gate, I will happily show you the 1-11 and VC10, plus the others too. Please take the road to RAF St Mawgan, continue up the hill after the camps main gate and you will come to a metal gate…Gate 6 marked Aerohub. Our number is on the gate.
I believe the smaller museum at Davidstow is currently closed but the larger one next door is open as usual.
Spitfire Corner is always worth a look as is St Eval church.

How are all those Spitfire restorations at Perranporth coming along?
Much as all but the most ‘optimistic’ of us always knew.

Waste of time, could be. Waste of money? Well, it is very expensive when you compare to the many free botanical gardens in the UK
Yes wings, I agree it’s very expensive for what it is! You can see some plants (interesting if you like that kind of thing), see some junk recycled to look like a ‘robot’, a big acorn made of stone and covered in oil from people touching it, and lots of dusty toy animals in the cafe area. I will never go back!
Davidstow was interesting, and I’d make an effort to get to St Mawgan. I looked at the Shack the last time I went there.

Few pints of Rattler…. 😉

I thought the Eden Project was just about OK, but we went in March when crowds were sparse.
I certainly won’t be rushing back.
