I recently returned from a 10 day vacation in Yugoslavia, where I hoped to escape from the world of aviation for a brief period. While there I stumbled upon some interesting things I could hardly resist taking an interest in.
1. While waiting for a coach in Cacak a friend and I were practicaly overflown by two G-4 Super Galebs (noisy little ****ers that they are). The interesting thing about this was that they were both painted in an overall black (possibly dark blue) colour scheme I had never seen on a Yugoslav aircraft. Also, they were both carrying two white Maveriks each on their inside wing pilons and a white fuel tank (or napalm bomb) on their centraline pilons. They were flying in a northerly direction (possibly towards Batajnica).
2. I can confirm that Yugoslavia now has both the tracking and surveillance radars of an S-300 system). The source for this information is as reliable as they come and has personally inspected the equipment. As I understand it there are two units of the 36D6 and two of the 30NG. They appear to be in some form of storage and nothing was mentioned about launchers or missles. It isn’t clear when or from whom they were purchased.
I was very eager for any information I could get on this but have the gentleman in question was pretty secretive.
