Does anyone have recent news on India’s forth coming Carriers? (i.e. IAC or Project 71) Like articles, links, offical sources, etc. etc.

Always confuses me when posters on whatever forums try to discourage people from posting. Fresh threads is what keeps forums moving.
Anyway, raise an eyebrow at the 4th country in the exclusive club propaganda. Very interesting carrier design tho so cannot wait to see it enter service.
Agreed………..:D

That’s because there’s an old one, which you could find easily enough. You’ve been around long enough to know about it: you’ve even posted on it. The sensible thing to do when you know the topic has already been discussed is to revive the old thread, thus placing any new posts in context.
This thread , as with a certain Rafale thread, has been (correctly) called pointless because it does not do that: it is a new thread on a topic for which a thread already exists.
Respectfully, I was looking for new or recent information. So, digging up a old thread would be pointless in that context……………as for the Rafale. I was not part of that debate.

I’ve seen no recent threads about the IAC’s.

I’ve seen no recent threads about the IAC’s. Regardless, I was just inquiring on any new information on its progress. Clearly, a reasonable request…..
BTW If, you don’t want to join the discussion or feel its not worth your time. Give the rest of us a break. By leaving you sarcasm and comments at the door……………..not like anybody is forcing you to participate.

Japan is discounted because Shinano was a conversion of an incomplete battleship, not designed as a carrier.
France is discounted because… well… CdG is under 40ktons.
Displacement: 38,000 tons empty; 42,000 tons full loadThe claims are that the “empty” weight of the first IAC will reach 40,000 tons… thus the “4th nation of 40k+ carrier-builders” claim.
What? Someone’s boasting that it’s overweight? :diablo:
Amazing what silly comparisons people will come up with. And yes, Devils Advocate, this is one of a few pointless threads. For example, there’s a pointless thread started to post an article about Rafale. The same article is in at least one other thread.

Aren’t there established threads for this instead of starting new ones? Oh I forgot… some people just start threads for their own ego purposes.

Some more questions:
When’s the first P17 (Shivalik) actually being commissioned – will she make the planned commissioning in May 2009?
When is the first of the batch II Talwars being delivered (launch expected in 2009)?
How’s the first P28 ASW-corvette coming along (laid down 20 Nov 2006)?

As you request:
Keel Laying New Indian Carrier
On 28 February the keel of India’s long awaited Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) was laid. The design and construction of the Indigenous Aircraft Carrier was sanctioned by the Govt. of India in Jan 2003. This is the most complex project, which the Indian Navy has taken up in-house so far. With this project, India has become the 4th nation to join the select club of 40,000 tonne plus carrier designers and builders. The Indigenous Aircraft Carrier designed by Indian Navy’s Design Organization is being built at M/s Cochin Shipyard Limited. It will be capable of operating an aircraft mix of Russian MiG-29K, Ka-31 and the Indian LCA fighter.
Design of the aircraft carrier has been undertaken by the Directorate of Naval Design (DND) which has over 40 years experience in successfully designing 17 different classes of warships, to which around 90 ships have already been built within the country.
