I have a question, how do you connect newsreaders to servers to access usenet usegroups. Outlook and various browsers have newsreaders and Im wondering if your ISP has to have a usenet server or if you can access usenet servers for free on the internet. A long while back a guy here named Shavlav suggested using the free Xnews newsreader on a thread I started about browsers, and Id especially like to figure how to connect that.

For those of you out there into usenet, I just want to mention that this free usenet server I found works really well with Outlook or the Opera 7 browser which I connected it to (Im to lazy to figure out how to use Xnews). Heres the link again to register:
http://news.cis.dfn.de/en/register.html
And when they email you back your password, this is the link you get for instructions on how to connect:

Well I did what I dont like having to do which is look this up on my own and I found a site that tells you how to Xnews works:
http://www.geocities.com/d4vidb/
and this is a server you can enter in the server box for free usenet access:
news.cis.dfn.de
but you first have to register with them at:

Thanks TJ. However the whole reason I want to connect a newsreader to a server is because Im tired of using google groups. There is an average 6 hour refresh delay and its very difficult to find posts branching off long threads (have to read date and time of each post). Your second link only works for customers of FreeUK. Basically I just want to find a server for use with Xnews and the help file didnt suggest any. xnews.newsguy.com

These links should help you out:
http://groups.google.com/googlegroups/help.html
If you are using Outlook Express then this link should help.
Outlook Express
http://www.freeuk.com/support/newsgroups_outlook.php
If you are using a different browser then just do a web search or use the help on whichever system you currently have. It was the case in the past that some ISP don’t support specific newsgroups. Failing that you can register straight from the first link and post direct onto the groups.
