Newsnight film on museum over-collecting

This will be on Newsnight tonight; “Museums part with the past in collections revamp” and discusses museum stored collections that are getting so vast that they’re becoming a burden.

My question is – does this sort of ‘buy as much as you can and then store it away for ever’ policy exist in the vintage aviation museum sector? From what I have seen ‘No’ would be the almost universal answer, with most museums carefully managing the size and – more to the point – relevance to mission statement of their collections.

But then, most aviation museums seem to be charities without public funding and therefore far more cagey about spending hard-earned cash, unlike the more general museum body that does get public funds.
