Only if you have a car will you be moved on

I used to go to this spot with my family when i was young. In those days security was not really an issue, and families would sit on the grass watching the aircraft through the simple fence.
Nowadays, you will get moved on by a bunch of storm troopers in a transit.

OK – Don’t worry if you can’t make it Tom 🙂

I might be there Matt – depends on the weather though 🙂

Talking about Gatwick, will anyone be there on Sunday? If so would you be able to get a pic of my a/c? I’m flying out at 13:30 on the FCA4744 to FUE, sceduled to be an A321.
Cheers! 😀

There’s a small gap between the crash gates that offers decent views of taxiing aircraft. It’s on of the better locations

I prefer the look of where the photo was taken FROM to be honest.
That spot is only a couple of miles from my house and I drive past it most days. It does have restrictions as Hugh Jarse says, but most of the time they seem fairly relaxed about things.
I wouldn’t imagine it’s a great place to look onto the field though as it is all high fences, shrubs and embankments, but you would get good views of aicraft on final.

That area has further parking restrictions on it these days. I think it is designated clearway these days so no stopping. If coming by car, there is a lay-by opposite the Flight Tavern where you can leave the car and make the relatively short walk. This is a fairly well frequented spot although not as much as the other end or the crash gate. There may be another way to get there from the terminal and that being a bus to Charlwood and then walking down Lowfield Heath Road (perimeter road). It goes past the Gatwick Aviation Museum with their Wessex (I think) parked out front.

It is there, it’s just not top of the day anymore. Put in a search for Air Southwest and you’ll find it.

I can see the picture now as well 😀
By: philgatwick05 - 30th March 2006 at 21:53
Ah I see it – I’ve been there before on a bitterly cold and snowy day – and it was empty. There are some great shots available from there – and security aren’t bothered either as long as you don’t park where that car is.

I think we’ve had photos from that spot before, seems to be quite popular.
By: tomfellows - 30th March 2006 at 21:46
What a great photo. That’s a nice spot for spotting as well, but too far from the terminal without transport,as me and philgatwick05 found out in january:D
