Nice to see a sportsman with pride in his country

Yes this is aviation related, kind of.

Watching the Rugby this evening I wondered where fellow Jerseyman Matt Banahan was. It turns out the England No 22 is on the subs bench.

However my search on the intraweb revealed something about Banahan I didn’t realise. It’s well known that he is covered in tattoos, however I did’t know that they are predominately WW2 related and especially aviation in memory of his Grand Fathers. His first tattoo was on his 18 birthday and featured a Spitfire and Mustang, further patriotic drawings have been added and include a Lancaster, RAF Pilot and specific to his home island an image of the sun setting behind a German watch tower.

I’m not a fan of tattoos, but it is quiet heart warming to know that some sportsmen have pride in their country and remember those who have fought for the lives they lead today.
