Nieuport Type 12 WW1 Replica

Hello all

Unfortunately the Nieuport Type 12 replica that was built in Australia, at Watts Bridge has crashed and the pilot had one of his legs badly busted. I made a video of it before its first flight when it was being taxi tested.

the video is at

the prang was pretty bad and I don’t think it will be rebuilt. Its really a great shame as Bruce was planning to build another WW1 replica.

cheers

Thanks for that, i was going to say it looks about 3/4 size. Looks to be one of the Airdrome Aeroplane kits from Robert Baslee poered by a VW, is it??

Hello All

It is not full scale. The technical aspects of the paint are interesting in that the airframe was covered by ceconite and instead of using the usual nitrate/butrate dope as the paint, instead a method of using water based plastic paint was used (house paint). Apparently the original finish was a non-gloss finish and Bruce strove to make the visual finish of his aeroplane as close to the original as possible.

The finish achieved did look particularly good. I estimate that using the usual dope finished would have cost A$3000 approx, using this method the cost was less than A$1000

cheers

Nieuport 12 replica

Very sad & speedy recovery.
It does not look full scale to me. The paint scheme looks very accurate. Does anybody know if it was 3/4 scale & what engine it had.
Thanks
