Where I differ from yourself is that in some way, I do care about some of the things debated, I want my daughter to have the best upbringing I can provide and it worries me that she may not get it because of the misguided opinions of others.

That’s where you and I differ Derek.
I have no one in the next generation to worry or care about.
I certainly however don’t blame you (I in fact applaud you) for wanting something better for your daughter–who wouldn’t? In my own case, when I’m gone, I’ll be gone. Some days I actually can’t wait.
As others have said here, I am acutely disenchanted with the World–more so than I hope any of you ever feel yourselves.

I do remember an optimistic young man of principle once, but sadly he was steam rollered by the complete ***t that life is.
What I’m left with is me.

You are right. Nothing of any real consequence emerges as a result of arguments, debates and discussions on this or practically any other Forum. This has been mentioned, with emphasis, on other occasions.

However, some of us are interested in what goes on in the wider world – I understand that it’s not for you – but, argumentative old gits like me, like to know what some of the opposition is thinking and once we know, can then sit back and quietly reflect on the excesses and follies of the EU that shape our daily lives.

I’ve had a very brief flirtation with national politics. The level of humbug, hypocrisy and cant is well reflected in your personal disenchantment. But, what musn’t happen is to permit the very vocal and politically charged activists in our midst to go about their business unchallenged.

The propagandists of the EU must be confronted and denied any opportunity to spread their deceit unhindered. No matter how ineffective we the opposition seem to be, unless we publicly oppose and continue so to do, it opens the door wider to yet more EU chicanery

No country is really independent, as in this modern world, all are governed by the economics of a truly globalised society,

I certainly would not disagree with that but we are, as far as I understand it, talking about statutory regulations set by nations independently or “federally”. No group and no nation exists in a bubble immune from the global effects you referred to, but that’s not the same as being forced to abide by regulatory controls.

An EU homosexual taskforce will be set up, the purpose of which is to ensure that ‘gays’ are adequately represented by means of enforced quotas in the workplace.

I’m a gay man, and I don’t want an ‘EU Task Force’ or anyone else’s come to that, looking out for, or making any ‘special arrangements’ for me, I suggest that no self respecting gay man would. Throughout my working life, I like to think that I got to where I did, through hard work, as opposed to satisfying any ‘quotas’ imposed by anybody.

And I attempted to differentiate between a country outside the EU which acts entirely independently of it other than complying with any regulations or tariffs relating to trade with the EU. And this goes for any nation selling to any other nation in the world. Whereas within the EU every nation is governed to a greater or lesser extent by a myriad of regulations and laws which apply ONLY to those members of the EU.

No country is really independent, as in this modern world, all are governed by the economics of a truly globalised society, which transcend national boundaries, wether they be EU ones or not. IMO we are deluding ourselves, if we think we are living in a truly ‘economically independent’ entity, but sadly, there’s no such thing. Indeed if anything, it is going to be even harder in the future, for nation states to hold on to any real fiscal independence and meaningful sovereignty. Both are underpinned by global economics, not by flags, or national history. important though they are.

You should concentrate on talking about them instead of this sh*t.

It’ll change not one jot of anything.
Whereas your pictures as far more interesting.
I guess the ones from the 1980’s are scanned slides–would I be right..?
I’m being serious incidentally. I’m not interested in the EU, World politics, who f*cks who (literally or metaphorically) in the Westminster village, or anywhere else for that matter.
I do like 5 Sqn. Lightnings though.
