How strange it is that none of our evenhanded keepers of the nation’s conscience, normally so assiduous on this forum, have bothered to mention the words of James Brokenshire (what couldn’t you do with a second name like that !) Government Minister for Immigration, who recently blamed immigrants for putting pressure on Britain’s road network.

Mr. Brokenshire concluded his remarks by commenting that our infrastructure was under considerable pressure. The issues of the pressures on public services have not been properly addressed, he said.

So, the point made ? People overload. Or, to put it another way; too many people, even when they are just visiting truck drivers !

So no change on the A14, Bob. It was like that a few weeks after it opened – especially Huntingdon to Cambridge. But I haven’t been on it for 10 years….

Mr Farage needs to come up and experience the joys of driving on the A14!!! End to end trucks most hours of the day! And all those East Europeans going home after they’ve picked all our fruit and veg…

I too tend to give foreign registered trucks a wide berth – I’ll never try and pass one unless I am sure of clearing it, almost treating them as a moving hatched junction. They are at a disadvantage by being LHD and even with more mirrors than a Mods scooter they can still have blindspots. That’s just defensive driving though, not a dislike of foreigners…

But he is giving us lots of amusement so let’s enjoy the parody while it lasts!;)

If Mr Farage cant take the blame for not organising his transport properly, that is his problem. Was the M4 really exclusively full of immigrants on Friday evening, or was it just a Friday, and the traffic was as busy as always?

He is starting to become a parody of himself that man…

Perhaps it is just a perception that they seem to be overly represented in our road traffic accident stats. Tho’ in the interest of ‘evenhandedness’ for which this forum is justly famous, we should mention that perhaps our lot when they go abroad are equally well represented.

You have forgotten to take into account the thousands of illegal immigrants carried by all of these foreign lorries………

And what might the condition and driving standards of foreign registered trucks, based on the continent and over here for only so long as it takes to deliver or pick up a load have to do with immigration?

Well Moggy do not trash Mr Farage’s excuse out of hand. I tend to slow down and look very carefully when overtaking an Eastern European artic on all roads because I find the standard of their driving falls below what I consider acceptable for the size of the vehicle the fact it is a left hooker and many seem to be in a poorer state of repair than their British counterparts.(not that they are a paragon of virtue either) Still if Mr Osborne doubles the price of fuel and road tax to reduce the deficit you might get your fine Motorway back. The Greens? can I have the back seat on your tandem?

Bloody immigrants, coming here and blocking up our fine motorway network.

As I have tried and failed to explain, there is no need to dangle anything whilst breastfeeding. It is perfectly possible, easy in fact, to attach baby without any hint of flesh being exposed. That I think is where the misunderstanding lies.

I took it as implied from your comment. That is all.

I think that in fact we agree that it’s feeding mothers are discreet in their actions. I would contend that the lady in Claridges was too; the important thing is not to over react to a situation which should not cause offence.

John above suggested it would be appropriate to bare certain parts of his anatomy. As I said before, it is rare indeed for any feeding mother to show ‘flesh’. There is plenty of clothing available which preserves modesty at all times whilst feeding.

Like most things, there is always a sort of hardcore of people, but they are the exception, not the rule. I wonder how we all feel about nudist beaches? Are they similarly inappropriate, or, because it is expected that the nude form will be seen there, not a problem?

i don’t know many who would actively seek to make users of bottles feel inadequate, but as above, there will always be a hardcore. Clearly, it is not an issue in all societies. Similarly, the number of women who cannot breastfeed is quite low. The number who will not is much higher, but it is a lifestyle choice at the end of the day.

I actually don’t think we disagree as much as may be apparent during the sub discussion. I think I have moved the discussion on somewhat from where it should have been; that of discretion – something which we largely agree on. I think the idea that baring of flesh is necessary in order to feed can be laid to rest.

Probably my last post on the subject – not sure where I stated that breastfeeding was the exclusive reserve of the “middle” or “upper” classes. My only mention was maybe “posh noshery”? But that was solely referencing the Claridges incident which Farage had been berated for.

I think that most level headed mothers, from all “classes”, who have to breastfeed, will do so in a manner which protects their modesty and ensures that people around don’t “feel uncomfortable” with the process. And reading many replies to the news piece seems to confirm that many women also think this woman was “out of order”. There does seem to be a “hardcore” element that likes to seek out as many places to test the water (or should that be the milk) and hope to get the reaction they are hoping for, to challenge ‘convention’. I suspect the mindset is shared by the Breastapo advocates of “Breast Is Best” towards some new mothers who perhaps cannot breastfeed and are made to feel inadequate parents…

In the case of the disabled wanting easy access to buildings or other public facilities, for example, I see no problem with confronting businesses etc to ensure equal rights as the able bodied.
But I’m afraid I have little to no sympathy with a woman creating a public outcry about her “rights” then posting it all over the internet. What happened to quietly discussing the issue with the business?

Now, I’m off to the local creche cafe for a milky coffee…
