Nigerian 737 Test Flight at Southend

My run of good luck with movements at Southend continues! The 4th consecutive weekend day which I have photographed a Boeing – a new record!

Today it wasn’t in the form, of Jet2, but a 737 of Aero Contractors of Nigeria, going on a post maintenance test flight. 5N-BLC arrived in mid November and has recently been joined by 5N-BLD which arrived on Wednesday this week. To my surprise the crew didn’t test fly BLC until today.

So here it is, with the gear already going up very shortly after rotation.

2 1/2 hour later it returned, by which time the sun had come out, but the wind had picked up! Banking right:

Correcting, but still banking left.

I hope these are of interest, yet another example of the delights of Southend!!

Thanks very much for that explanation. Aero must be involved in a similar line of wok today, as I’m sure I’ve seen photos of some heavy helicopters in their name.

Schreiner airways did a lot of flying with fixed wing aircraft and helicopters for oil companies.
They also operated crew transport for oil companies in Nigeria.

When commercial flying had a particular bad spell in Nigeria with companies going bust, or being grounded for safety reasons in the late nineties Shreiner actually started this airline aero (contractors) in Nigeria but the company has become independent since.
Schreiner has merged with CHC helicopters in 2005

Thanks for the comments. Looks like 2011 was the last year with NWI being busier than ‘London Southend.’

The tail logos are identical, I wonder what the story behind that is..

I thought I’d seen this livery before.

Same spray shop using an old stencil? 😀
