Nightingales and allied Bombers

Just found this via a F/B topic , i thought it was rather poignant   , recording of Nightingales singing with bombers off on a mission in the distance. According to the write up it was recorded in 1942 , sound quality is superb  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_MHqW5KVds

Not listening to this, as I haven’t – I’m not even sure I’ve got speakers plugged in to this PC – but what brought it home to me was the night time taxi runs of Just Jane, NX611.

At around 7.00 in the evening, on the ground, there was already rime on the perspex. It doesn’t bear thinking about what it was like at 15-20,000 feet in an hour or two.

The last time we were there, some years ago, I was I guess, early sixties. They were mostly late teens or early twenties.

All volunteers…

At that age, although I was, I shouldn’t have been trusted with a motorbike or car, let alone a four-engined bomber.

Very moving recording. Thank you for posting.
Strangely, I was thinking about this very track earlier today, having heard it many years ago.
It might have been the dawn chorus that brought it to mind. They were very brave men indeed.
