Nikon 28-300mm zoom to replace my 70-300mm

Hi all, I’m thinking of replacing my Nikon 70-300mm with the 28-300mm. Anyone got any experience of this lens ? I’ll be using it with my D7000. If I get this I will have the 16-85mm DX lens and this new zoom so will have two lenses going from 16 to 300mm. I don’t use the 16-85mm that much so needed a wider zoom as the 70-300 which is really 105-450mm doesn’t go low enough. The new zoom would give a range of 42mm to 450mm which is more useful. I’m obviously asking opinions on the lens for civil aviation photography use. Thanks for any help…

Hi Culpano,

I would look carefully at changing. I don’t know about the Nikon version but the Canon 28-300mm L Lens isn’t the best. I know the Canon 70-300mm L lens is fairly new on the market and therefore newer technology but it is a very good lens, so I assume the Nikon will be fairly comparable.

Have a look on these two comparison sites – they might give you a better idea what to expect.

I hope this helps.
