I’m not sure if this one has come up before but here goes….
I’ve been using a Coolscan VED very successfully on Windows XP for a number of years. However I’ve “upgraded” to Windows 7 and I’ve found that the driver with Nikon Scan is not now compatible! Apparently Nikon have washed their hands off it and say that they won’t support Vista or 7. Has anyone any advice on what to do? I have been told that opening Nikon Scan in “compatability view” would work. Any thoughts?
Thanks a lot.

RR

If you feel that you must retain Win7, have you considered the possibility to “dual boot”? That is to say to install both XP and Win7 and choose between them when you start up?
Just out of interest, how do you do that?
I have the same problem as RR but with a HP scanner, it will basic scan ok but won’t do any of the extras such as editing and slides scans etc.

For what it’s worth:
According to Nikon, Scan 4.03 is compatible with Windows Vista and could also be working with Windows 7 in 32-bit mode.

I use Canon video and they used to bundle the ‘Corel Guide Menu’ with their cameras. They have stopped supporting it.
Several months ago, just after an update to Windows 7, the application stopped working. Then there was a further update and it started working OK!

Well, for fear of becoming a techie thread….You’ve sussed out the main problem: Win7. Such things are pretty routine, alas, when “upgrading” [*ahem*] to this system.
If you would like a technical explanation, just drop me a PM. However, Compatibility Mode under Win7 is likely to be unsuccessful. If you feel that you must retain Win7, have you considered the possibility to “dual boot”? That is to say to install both XP and Win7 and choose between them when you start up? That might be the least complicated solution for you.
If Nikon say they will not issue drivers for the new OS, I would take that threat seriously and presume that indeed they won’t.
