Seeing as I was back at Elvington on Sunday, attempting to do something useful on the Victor, I thought I’d get a couple of shots of the Nimrod in her new home. Also got some of the rest of the collection, now they’re back outdoors, from a slightly ‘different’ angle.
Seeing as I failed miserably last time, I got a shot of the NF Meteor this time. She’s getting some tlc now, and new intakes it seems!
If you look very carefully, you’ll see in the cockpit of the Buccaneer a certain member of this forum having a ‘dagadagadaga’ moment when he thought nobody was looking…! 😉

Yes i remember that, 1987 i believe.?! I was under the impression that it was entered to see ‘what it would make’, and i would of thought that highest bid was pretty respectable considering its rather unfashionable appeal to the warbird fraternity.

standing outside uncovered at Sandtoft have taken their toll. Never quite knew why she was grounded after the 1988 airshow season. Owner Neil Moffatt must of had his reasons i guess.
He had sold it at Auction (around £110,000) by that point, which makes it even stranger why it was left to rot for ages.

Indeedy. If you have a search on ‘ere I’m sure someone posted some pics of her with lights on at the recent nightshoot…:)
Is there any news on 500?
By: Wyvernfan - 4th May 2010 at 16:49
Thanks Wyvernfan.
AFAIK she won’t be made to run, RR had a squint at the engine and basically said ‘don’t do it’. That’s what I was told anyway. Electrics work though, and yes she’s had a repaint. Put a pic up now she’s out and easier to photograph, was awkward when I last went, as she was well hemmed in in the hangar.
Oh ******, thats a shame. Obviously the years of standing outside uncovered at Sandtoft have taken their toll. Never quite knew why she was grounded after the 1988 airshow season. Owner Neil Moffatt must of had his reasons i guess. But at least, hopefully, we will have XL500 on the airshow circuit at some stage to look forward to.
Anyway judging by the pic its hats off to the YAM for looking after her now.

Nice pics B2. I notice that the front prop is back on the Gannet AEW.3, and that she looks to have had a repaint. Do you know if YAM are any further forward in getting her back into ground running condition as was originally planned?

’twas not I, was the one known as Victor sim doing the ‘dagadagadaga’ing, some excuse was made about fixing the Bucc’s radios…;)
Shall try post an enlargement of the bucc shot

I’d love to see the “dagadagadaga” moment but cannot enlarge it enough to do so……:) Was it fun?;)
