Probably something along the lines of to what to do with it once its parked up. I can imagine it would cause the airport a few issues while its being decommissioned/tugged over to the aeropark. To the best of my knowledge i don’t think there is even a pad set up for it yet. I haven’t been up for a few weeks.
(Im not avoiding you all, i just haven’t got a bean since being slapped with a £990 repair bill for my bike. Hence no submission of an application form)

Nothing like that everything is sorted, but things have to be agreed thats all i can say at the moment.

East Fortune has now taken delivery of the forward fuselage of XV241. Delivered from Kinloss by lorry last week.

Where the hell will they put it, they have barely enough space to show off what they have?

Airliners not owner by IWM , they are owned by DAS, and if IWM could get rid of them they would.
IWM seem totally drive by International Museums standards which state that exihibits must in temperature controlled dry storage, even things like the intesity of intrior lighting should be reduced. Hence the money being spent of the existing hangars. These rules are fine when considering old fabric and art work but when allied to aircraft it gets silly.

Duxford as far as i know are not having one as they have no indoor space to put one.

Why does it have to be inside? They have a row of airliners outside……

Of the two airworthy R1’s, I understand that 1 is going to East Midlands, the other is going to Duxford. I don’t know what will happen to the 3rd now that Newark don’t want it? I understand that they will remain in service until the end of March so I suppose we can expect delivery flights sometime around then. I would imagine that the destination airfields will have to have pretty secure facilities while they strip the classified kit out of the R1’s… Unless they’re going to do that at Waddington and then ferry them over, but I would have thought given the amount of kit to come out, that would make them unflyable.

Non of the kit removed will stop us operating on the thunder days (17th OCTOBER) please note.

All in all it could have been a lot worse.

Phew! 😀

Sounds like the ‘Vulcan strips’ of the 1980s – pleased to hear that it’s not too serious! 🙂

Any further feedback from other locations would be appreciated and would aid my ‘desk research’, PM me if you prefer!! 😉

In answer to your questions

I finally managed to get down and visit the maid today and I have to say I am mightily relived at what I found as I was hearing horror stories as to what was being removed.

Cosmetically 250 looks virtually the same inside and out as before with a couple of items missing, however I was shown some of the kit they have removed that they are coming back for and it Staggeringly rather a lot!!! As far as I can see its mainly Radar, comms and black boxes from behind panels. I also saw piled up the ADR, fatigue meter, antenna’s, LRU’s various, Tacan? And the remains of all that sneaky stuff.

Non of the kit removed will stop us operating on the thunder days (17th OCTOBER) please note.

All in all it could have been a lot worse.
