Nimrod v. Bear

Interesting snippet of information in a presentation to the RAF Historical Society by a former Nimrod crewman. His plane was tracking a Bear on a homeward run from Cuba when he was spotted by the Bear. The Bear’s pilot pushed the throttles through the gate and the Nimrod was unable to keep up!

Now I’ve always known that the Bear was a remarkable aircraft but I didn’t know it could run away from a jet. Given its range and carrying capacity, perhaps the RAF should buy some from Russia to kit out with our own systems as a Nimrod replacement 😉
