Ahead of my trip to AMS i was browsing the photo sites to see what sort of airlines use AMS,i’m quite surprised to find that Emirates don’t have any passenger flights to AMS.Being fairly central in europe i thought EK would be keen to serve AMS.There doesn’t seem to be much middle-east carriers at AMS,no Qatar,Etihad,Gulf Air…Is there any reason for this?

EK has got a few slots, but their cargo flight is much more lucrative then a passenger flight would be. Therefor we do get Emirates Skycargo 747F’s, but no pax flights.
While it is common knowledge that KLM does not want them at AMS, they really have not a lot to say. The landing lots are handed out by a seperate company. Of course KLM being the largest customer does have a some clout with the slot coordinator.
However, the fault also lies with Emirates themselves. Emirates sets high standards, but also wants to get the slots cheap. Very cheap actually. The German airports where willing to go low to attract this high profile carrier. Schiphol was not willing to do so.
Also, Emirates has a large presence at Dusseldorf (double daily). Through that airport Emirates still serves part of the Netherlands.

Apparently, it’s to do with politics. I was wondering the same thing few months back.
