No more Dutch airshows??

The infamous Dutch FAA did it again. The biggest Dutch historic aviation event, in Lelystad omn September 6 , is cancelled after the FAA made it inpossible for the organisation to continue. They came with arguments that were inpossible to answer. What has a fire in a bar/dico in which 15 plus people were burned has to do with an airshow? I don’t know but this was one of the reasons! Looks like I have to go out of Holland to see the Connie perform as amost all Dutch airshows of this year are now cancelled.BW Roger

Well, it is still early in the season, and the pressrelease on the cancellation off Lelystad only arrived yesterday, but it looks as if the new rules have been triggered by the SU-27 crash in the Ukraine last summer. As a result, the question of how to make an airshow safer could only be answered by the logical outcome that the safest airshows are those that are not taken place. So far this has no effect on the only military airshow in Holland, as the FAA has no juristriction on military airbases. But, imagine, only one show a year! And, don’t forget, this is a heavy metal show, and not a vintage aircraft show (by the way, the FAA has the rule that “old aircraft (over 35 years) are dangerous aircraft”. It is always possible to bypass things by organising a fly-in in stead of an airshow, but this involves no flying, but is better than nothing. I don’t know yet how the display pilots in Holland are reacting to this. But imagine, all over the world they are celebrating 100 years of powered flight, and in my country this is sabotaged y the FAA. BW Roger

Roger. Can you find out more about this terrible news and where does it leave the owners and operators of historic aircraft if they can not fly and display in public. Do the Dutch FAA have any control over the military displays, if so this must surely put their show at risk also.

Sounds a bit short sighted to me.
Come over here Roger we are much better at airshows, unless of course you want no queueing, lots of toilets, water points, non- obstructive PA systems, informed commentators and all at a fair price.
Ah well we can at least put up some very good aircraft.
