Hi Folks
Does anyone have any information which aircraft has been flying circuits on the east of LBA for the last couple of hours? From the roar of the engines it sounds pretty old, however it seems to have climbed a little over the last 45 minutes. I tried by airband but the batteries have died!
Cheers

I’m sorry, I find it hard to believe that the RAF would have a Nimrod in the air over a residential area for a number of hours due to the wife of one of these bombers being arrested hours earlier. The Police would have had the house searched ages before (unless they had requested the Nimrod to jam radio signals, yeah right). If this were the case they would have had them airborne a few weeks ago when more terrorist suspects were arrested in the same area.
If this ‘was’ a Nimrod there would be more chance of it training using the LBA beacon like some of the AWACS did last year at higher altitude.
Nice guess work, but it doesn’t add up.
Plus they would off not used a nimrod but a police chopper instead:confused:

Extra rant.
What a wonderful, friendly and helpful attitude you display.UK707
Why do you feel the need to speak to people in such an offhand and patronising way when all they’re simply doing is pointing out the fact you’re contradicting yourself?

Totally agree. Hadn’t bothered to read this thread until now. Fascinating! The police are now able to call up a Nimord (and other assets as hinted at by UK707, what are those or is that another secret the public musn’t learn?) to arrest a citizen or two? Considering the problems at Kinloss and serviceability, is it really feasible that the R.A.F. would release a Nimrod for a civil operation?
I noticed last week when returning to the U.K. how paranoid the public are becoming about security. One woman was so happy to take her shoes off ‘for our security!’. How many attempted shoe bombers have there been? Another businessman had to agree totally with the security as it was for the ‘safety of his grandchildren!’. The laugh was that he was the one selected for extra searching!

Well done….now you can see why it’s not publicised on forums.
Everyone happy now?“I’ll email the airport as suggested to find out the ‘real aircraft and operator’.”
I can’t believe you would be that stupid sunjet757 ! As if they’d tell you.
If you claim to know that much about aircraft you would have guessed it was a special Nimrod from EGXW, and not one of the others from Scotland. And my guess is the operator is RAF!
Any more info required, Reg, Pilot and crews names, equipment used? The other aircraft that were involved.

Why shouldn’t we talk about it on this forum, that’s what forums are for. As for it not being publicised, well as it was on the national news there’s a pretty big chance that alot of people saw it.
As for guessing that the operator is the Royal Air Force (RAF), it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work that out when they are the only current operator of the Nimrod.

The Police did arrest this woman in connection with the 7th July bombs, but it was earlier in the evening on the opposite side of Leeds. They also arrested two people in Batley which is some distance from Leeds, also on the opposite side.

On the evening of 9th May, West Yorkshire police arrested the wife of one of the 7/7 bombers in Leeds. That was on the national news, so that is all I can think the Nimrod was over Leeds for.

If this is so sensitive that it cannot be discussed on an open forum what was it doing being aired on the news. If it was on the local/national news I must have missed it when I blinked as I saw both.
I’ve also Googled it and cannot find anything relating to a Nimrod and Leeds on the 9th or 10th May.

Well we don’t get many enemy submarines sailing up the river aire into Leeds city centre do we. So it must have been looking for something else. Sorry to be vague, but is not really an item to discuss on an open forum. You will have to draw your own conclusions. It made national news, not just local, if you are not from the Leeds area.
If you work it out, then keep it to yourself.
Well I never saw anything about a Nimrod and a enemy submarine which sailed up a river into Leeds:rolleyes: And why is it such a secret anyway.

Can you produce some evidance of this then for example a link to the story.

What news??? Where???
By: lba - 11th May 2007 at 13:06
Why not just e-mail the airport? They will tell you the movements if you state date and time.

I have to admit i heard something but did not take much note on it, i just thought it was the police!
By: Sunjet757 - 9th May 2007 at 20:06
No definately not. This aircraft flew over every 10 minutes or so for 2 hours. We’re not even on the flightpath and so to hear this aircraft for so long was definately odd.
By: lukeylad - 9th May 2007 at 19:41
No this was definately a jet and was in the air for a good two hours from around 22:30 to 00:30 this morning. Quite a few neighbours and other people in East Leeds have commented about it too.
Your sure it was not just aircraft landing and taking off as per normal.

Certainly wasn’t a VC10. As I said, would probably have been the Herc, we get a Jet2 in from Murcia around midnight every night, but that doesn’t seem like it would have been loud enough.
By: LBA-EGNM - 9th May 2007 at 14:26
To be honnest i dont think it was a VC-10, im not saying it was not but as soon as the police chooper left the airport area a jet a/c landed straight away!:D
By: Manston Airport - 9th May 2007 at 13:53
Sounds like an VC-10 was there one nearby?

There was definately an RAF Hercules due into LBA late last night, that’s the only thing it could have been surely!
