Yes, it does describe them as “gutted”. It is a shame to treat Voodoos like that, but then lots have simply been scrapped.

………….. Does it really cost that much?
I expect the airframes have to be made safe removing most of the internal services – fuel tanks and lines, hydraulics and other oils, probably electrical cables. Anything that might damage ‘the environment’

What’s wrong with cars or lumps of concrete? As a way of displaying something with a local connection this sucks.

“The Bay County Tourist Development Council provided $30,000 to sink the jets, and $60,000 from the FloridaFish and Wildlife Commission’s artificial reef program was used to build and sink the reef modules.” ———– Does it really cost that much?
I expect a barge with a crane on it doesn’t come cheap, transportation, and the official’s bonus… That sort of thing.
So if the fish were already there what did they need an artificial reef for anyway? The mind boggles.
To provide a place for the fry and fingerlings (baby fish) to shelter from predators? Usually the sea close to the shore is rather featureless.
