Just been reading a book about the French Normandie-Nieman units that flew in Russia during WW2.
However I seem to remember from reading a different book years ago that on their return to France in 1945 flying 40 Yak-3 fighters one of the Pilots flew inverted along a stretch of water trailing his Fin/Rudder tip in the water!!!
Because some a/c fly ‘nose high’ when inverted I suppose it is possible(esp if you been on the vodka :diablo: ).
Am I remembering correctly?can anybody confirm?
Is there a photo anywhere?
The book I have just been reading does not mention this at all which is why I am curious!

Could the identity of ‘wet fin’ pilot be Capt Josef Risso ?
He did perform some aerobatic displays at the end if WW2.
He remained in the French Air Force postwar eventually promoted to General
