So flex/Martin,
how old were you when Communism came to an end? I like stories 🙂

Having been born in July 1978, the end of Commie times on 17-Nov-1989 has found me an 11-year old boy. I remember that particular day very well – walking from musical school home I have found loads of leaflets taped on the shop screen windows – all of the with some very shocking wannabe-poetry just like *Nothing in these days attracts me more than kicking the a$$ of Mr. Bilak (Vasil Bilak, Commie PM), all of us were forced to accept you, I really got enough of you, Vasil*. I have immediately thought – geez, who is daring enough to publish something like this openly? Then I came home and found my parents with neighbours having a loud celebration where I was allowed to sip some red wine with them. My parents always were right-oriented at heart and me and my brother were given a proper education in German and English, something hardly imagineable at that times. German was somewhat justifyable due to our ‘brothers in arms’ from East Germany but openly learning English usually cost you a lot of trouble with secret police since no Commie land ever spoke that language.

Don’t hesitate to ask more, I will gladly tell you what I remember from those times.

Some of the pics are really interesting , i wonder whats the rationale behind having passengers getting off their cars , then the car going to the station to get a full tank ?? NK is really a failed economic state and i wonder how long before the govt. is able to hold on to this failed state .

Exactly as long as the govt manage to keep people isolated from outside world.. A fresh wind of change, that is what they fear most.

Fantastic stuff. Brings back some memories.. As a former citizen of a Commie land I find many things similar to what I have experienced as a child, even if my country was better developed than NK. I remember almost empty streets w/o cars, no ads, nothing to buy in the shops except bread, milk, butter and toothpaste and six-hour waiting lines to get two pound of Cuban bananas twice a year. I remember the times when having a picture of a Porsche car from some western mag was at least as precious as riding the real 911 today. Times where getting a visa for once-in-a-lifetime holiday in Yugoslavia took two-three years of bureaucratic procedures plus a whole lot of bribing. Looks like many Eastern European leftist voters today have completely forgotten that already. 😡

Really very interesting photographs. 🙂

I’m going to be moving out to South Korea for a year in November. I’m just glad it won’t be anything like that.
