North Weald 86 – Static & Flying

Quite a few to ‘get off me chest’ after years spent in the loft, so I’ll do them in batches over the next day or two. Statics to come include plenty of MT719 pre-export.

It’s a Swiss 1950s trainer, Pilatus P2. Someone was flying one (Plane Sailing?) in the mid-Eighties.

Perhaps one of our contributers can dig out another photo of it.

Thanks Bradburger. It’s just great to share with a wider audience. And I’ve enjoyed the posts from support workers from the era. It must have been an exciting time – it was great to be an enthusiast, seeing all those types for the first time.

Great Shots Seafuryfan and thanks for sharing.

Enjoyed these and the 1985 shots. 🙂

Always good to see pics from the time the UK Warbird scene was starting to take off.

Cheers

Paul

Postscript. My mate Alex (you out there, Alex?) bought his Spitfire flying kit along and we persuaded the custodians of MT719 to let us in 🙂 Alex mate, I’ll spare you the embarrasement 😉

Last reply or two.

Final lot, you die-hard enthusiasts. Yes i know you’ve had to fight through the fog of old scanned photos, but i’ve enjoyed getting it ‘off me chest’ 🙂

The best part of that years Fighter Meet was just after it ‘officially’ finished on the Sunday and people were making a quick exit to get home for the World Cup Final. The 2 x Lightnings from the static park departed and then preceeded to give a somewhat ‘extended’ 😀 noisey airfield beat up/hooligan show-off display as only Lightning pilots could do best…. 😀 😀

And I’d used all my film up and could only watch in frustration… 😡
