I’m hoping to visit North Weald for the “Air-Britain-Wing Across The Channel-Fly-in” in June. I’ll be flying into Stansted on the morning of the show (either Sat or Sun -haven’t decided), and back home on the same evening.Does anyone know of a way to get to ‘Weald from Stansted fairly inexpensively? I have tried looking on the ‘net for buses running to Epping, I don’t want to travel all the way into London, and back out on the Tube, only to end up about 12 miles from my starting point, and the taxi firm I contacted want £70 for the round trip.Any ideas?

I have just done this earlier today. Stansted Airport to Harlow Town by train, £6.30. Then take a bus from Harlow Town to Harlow bus station (£1.00), theh another bus (H1) towards Ongar (£2.20), get off at the roundabout after the motorway junction & then a 15 minute walk to the field. Total cost £9.50, a taxi is about £30.00 I recall.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is the date of the fly-in? Oh, and please forgive my laziness in not going to the AB website to find out for myself!

Many thanks for all replies – esp G-APDK -very helpful. I’ll probably take the train to Harlow and then get a taxi.
I have always enjoyed this event greatly, although I must admit I have not attended for a few years -look forward to photographing the residents once again, and have my own “stumble around” – the other thread has whetted my appetite somewhat!

DCK – Knowing the team at NW, I doubt there would be a problem, providing you drink the tea!
Tip noted! 😀

To wet your appetite I can confirm there will be a Bleriot present and given the French theme, several groups of french aircraft are planning to come over to join us. Our website will be updated with more details as the event approaches.
Corrrr :eek::p
Looking forward to it
How many forumites (hope i spelt that right) are planning on comming?
Could have a small forum meet up? If anyone else is up for it

As the Air-Britain Fly-In Director I am really pleased to hear you are planning to join us at NW in June.
I would suggest you use the train or more the regular bus service to Harlow, then the bus to the Market. the alternative to the latter is a taxi from Harlow to NW, which may be cheaper from Harlow than one from Stansted.
If you send me a PM I might, depending on your arrival time, even be able to get someone to pick you up at Stansted.

I just took a taxi from Epping to Stansted when I was in the area. I didn’t think it was overly expensive. Depends what you’re used to on cab fares probably! 😀
The taxi will take you all the way over to the Squadron I think. One came and picked me up when I was at The Squadron once. Thankfully, I must say. The walk isn’t the shortest.
I’m playing with the idea of going to North Weald/Epping to do some serious writing on my book projects. For inspiration mainly. Not sure how The Squadron feels of a guest who stays for the entire opening hours drinking tea, stealing electricity and typing away on a laptop!

Train from Stansted to Harlow, taxi from there to North Weald. Don’t think there any buses. The only bus service to the airfield is on a Saturday from Epping for the market.
There is a bus from harlow to the market on a saturday. But that leaves you the market side and its a bit of a walk around to the squadron. I personaly think a taxi is best.
Also more food for thought there is a bus that runs between harlow bus station and stansted every 20mins during the day.
As for how much i wouldnt know
Hope this helps a wee bit
