Well i have just got back from a few hours down there with a local youth group. It was my second visit one being when i was 11/12 (forcing my parents around these places) But i must ask everyone to drop in a take a look. Its not a big place and has no aircraft, tho 20 years down the line we could see something bigger. They only display about 20% of what they have and even thats alot to take in. Every room is full of the thing that grips people, personaly stories of day to day life at north weald and paints a fantastic picture.
I have now got a great link with my cadets and the museum which is fantastic and something we cant afford to throw away. So if ever your about on a sunday (or another other time by prior notice) around “the weald” do drop it for an hour. (then down the road for a quick 1/2 :D)
There not for profit and its a great friendly place.
Also they did mention of future events at north weald and the fact that they keep trying for airshows but the insurance money is to much, but all i can say is watch this space. They certainly seem keen to get bigger and better events and i shall support them 100% in there quest
Cheers guys

We have artifacts commemorating 94 years of an active airfield which includes first, second world war and cold war activity of the RAF. As a side note, it may be worth noting that the first International Air Tattoo and the first aerial filming was held at North Weald, both which are mentioned and displayed in the museum.
We are also adjacent to an active former Battle of Britain airfield which houses many historic aircraft, including those from Kennet Aviation and Hangar 11 collection, to name but a couple.
The museum itself is the station office which includes the office used by Douglas Bader during his time as officer commanding, and by the RAF until the station closed, it was also used by the ATC until NWAMA took over when the ATC left.
The museum itself is a house of memories to the personnel from North Weald and the civilians in the surrounding district.

Apart from model aircraft what else do you have in there?

Which day(s) at the weekend do they open? I’ll try and drop by this weekend. Who can I expect to see to speak to?
I am pretty much certain I visited on a Saturday morning last summer but perhaps more lucky than anything as Sunday is indeed their main day. From their website: We are open on every Sunday from early April till the end of October – 12noon till 5pm, last entry 4pm. Depending on staff availability the museum tries to be open on a Saturday during the same period. Organized group visits are welcome at other times, by prior arrangement. Access to the airfield is restricted, although group tours can be arranged subject to sufficient notice and the airfield manager’s agreement.

Hello Paul
Is my Blue RAF bicycle still in the museum? I must admit to not having dropped in for a number of years. If they are interested, I have another relevant aircraft exhibit they may wish to display. Send me a pm/e-mail for details.
I did see a bicycle, weather it was blue i dont know.
I have good links with the chairman and he said they have soo much stuff that they are only taking things that are revelant to north weald at the moment.
Tho there are having a display change soon so depening on what it is you might be in with a shot.

^^^^^ seconded. It is only up the road to me and I have left it until late in life to visit this place and like you said it is small but very comprehensive. As far as I know they acquired a fair bit of stuff when Blake Hall closed a while back including the Merlin engine.I became a member there for the princely sum of £10 and now have access to the treasure trove of a library upstairs and to other activities involving the museum.
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly say that the staff are some of the warmest people I have met and have made me so welcome during my membership especially Bill Aitken who enrolled me and I take my hat off to them for all the hard work they have done fighting off the threat of the site being redeveloped by this moronic government and their obsession with building over everything…..but that is for another forum:D
