Nothing has ‘killed’ N Weald – its still very much alive as the various picture threads attest. There are many events held there each year and there is a lot to for the enthusiast to see. Recently new residents have moved in and every weekend sees plenty of movements from the resident organisations that are based there such as the Gnat Pair, Kennet Aviation and Hangar 11. The Air Britain Fly IN was held a few weeks ago and Pup Cub gathering a weekend or two ago and recently there have been night shoots, the Norwegian Day and there is the upcoming open day in September.
The airfield also hosts a varity of other events from a large Saturday market to car enthusiasts days, driver training, hovercrafting, archery. There is always something going on there and diversity is the secret to giving the place more appeal to a wider audiance rather than a purrely aviation focus.
Please do not write off a thriving airfield.
I wasn’t aware of any of that going on. Maybe they need to shout a little louder?

What killed North Weald?
Used to have an airshow, a few aviation events each year. Now not much happening for the enthusiast.

Perhaps we could all support North Weald by going to the Open Day in September ,why did they pick that date as its on the same day as Seething Air day ,and Duxford , its a shame but i think it will end up as a housing estate in the end ,lots of money for the local council as a housing estate thats what counts ,i remember the original fighter meets with Paul Warren Wilson ,john watts and arthur gibson

I imagine #1 be difficult with the pile of user fees pilots have to pay.

Used to have an airshow, a few aviation events each year. Now not much happening for the enthusiast. If you want to keep the airfield alive gotta have some aviation events.
Otherwise what’s the point, it just becomes historically interesting but nothing more.

Basically there were three options put to the council:
1. An intensification of aviation.
2. A non aviation solution based on residential or commercial development.
3. A mixed aviation/development based option.
They went for No3 and will now give residents a say as part of preferred option, no plans have been submitted as to what part could be “opened” for development.
