North Weald BoB day Report

Great time at the North Weald BoB day Clive Denny in the HAC Spit did a really nice couple of fly-bys at 11.15 at the memorial and as he left about 3.30.
We had perfect Battle of Britain weather, around 23 deg, there must of been over 6 Battle of Britain aircraft represented by the various groups one of which was ours and also Perfleet heritage centre Hornchurch Wing and a good display of hurricane parts BoB of course by the Hurricane Society.

Thanks to all for a great day and we are all looking forward to next years event.

Good to hear that he’s out and about in it, evidently it was too nice a day to work again then. Certainly putting in the time to master the aircraft can’t wait to see him display it.

Wow Robin! I hadn’t expected the Spanish Inquisition. Did you doubt me, or are you actually in favour of the housing development? All information can be found at the website I quoted in my first comment.

Here is one quote:

“Other than North Weald Bassett Airfield (a brownfield site) development east of the M11, and south of Harlow would intrude upon a rural area and should not be considered. Land west of the M11 should be considered for development”

Source: WS Atkins Consultants Ltd http://www.eelgc.gov.uk/Category.asp?lsection=12&ccat=409

Avgas is good value too at The Squadron!

Yak11 you are just playing devil’s advocate, I know. Expect no mercy when I next see you. 🙂

Area 51 is a major aircraft maintenance outfit. I’m not an expert on the exact location of all of Robs aircraft, but I know he has his own hangar there. He, too, has his own Mustang that likes to hide!

(P.S. I wrote this before Robin & Mark V replied. Forgive me for not amending it to take your responses into account).

Just leaves Area 51 (jet mainainance outfit next to Hangar 5), Kennet Aviation, Mike Woodleys stuff, The Squadron and the other privately owned aircraft to boot out then!:D

My letter is also with the council.

Thanks YR. I’ve received a load of e-mail/read aload of forum posts with “save North Weald” along with the URL to the website, but no one states fully why and how. Even then the how section seems to be a bit vague, poss due to the “plan” being 20 years in the future.

I fthe NW campaign organisers are to succeed, they must have their house fully in order. This doesn’t seem to come across to me at least.

Just a general point, esp. in light of last year’s “airport consulation” by the Government. If you are signing a petition, any petition in fact, now that the organisers have got their facts straight first or your signature will count for diddly squat in front of a planning committee.

But I suppose, something is better than nothing?

For the record, NW is well worth keeping open and beats a lot of other outer-London “airfields” pants down and all (or should that be bras off?). 😀

Who or what is Area 51????

Not sure if Bedsheet Bomber will need a home before much longer

David Arnold now seems to have a new home for his containers.

Doesn’t Robs keep a lot of his stuff down at his farm?

That aside my letter is with the council and I will back it up again today (got a different address now)
:p

If Jumping Jaques needs a home I’m sure I can find it one.

This deadline is for objections to the Epping Forest Draft Development Strategy 2021, drawn up by the Epping Forest District Council (EFDC), which proposes a “major new community development” on the airfield site and surrounding land.”

In a sense it is a separate issue from the previous objections to the Harlow Options report drawn up by the consultants Atkins, which was concerned with housing and employment prrovisions for Harlow.

The latest threat is specifically from Epping Forest Council who own the airfield. Quite separately, they are proposing a similar development of the site to those drawn up by Atkins – houses and warehousing.

It is a response to government plans for 1.2 million new homes to be built in the South East of England. The Government Office for the Eastern Region and the Eastern Regional Assembly had requested the relevant County and District Councils in the area to come up with development proposals aimed at meeting the region’s share of this target. Hence the similarity to the Harlow Option plans.

Both plans are unacceptable to the airfield users and local residents.

The arguments against both are pretty much the same. So, if you wrote to Atkins, a similar argument in favour of retaining and developing the airfield would suffice for EFDC.

One note reagarding the weekend fly-in. The cost of the Spitfire (heavily discounted) was borne by an individual donation, the Saturday market traders and the old people’s home in the village. That says something about about what local people think of the airfield. They don’t want thousands of houses and gridlocked roads.

Sorry, saw the Chippie leave, but didn’t take a pic.

1. North Weald Airfield will be converted totally into a housing estate.

The problem is that:

1. North Weald Airfield will be converted totally into a housing estate.

2. That we will lose a major airfield and home to many warbirds and all the fun that goes with that. No FlyPast fly in. No home for Jumpin’ Jacques. No home for Kennett. No home for The Squadron. No home for Area 51. No home for the sad B25 “Bedsheet Bomber”. No home for what is left of the late Doug Arnold’s aircraft. No home for Robs Lamplough’s aircraft. And many many more.

3. That a facility which is used for flying, gliding, models, motor racing, driving instruction, motor bike shows, Europes largest market, social club, archery, cycling, concerts and more will be lost.

4. A mass of houses without the facilities in point 3 would become a breading ground for social discontentment and all the degragation of societly that goes with it.

Sorry, but I’m going to have to ask you to be very precise here. Object to what? (give details as necessary). I know about the campaign so a simple answer won’t suffice.

It really depressing to have to write this, but I can see how much you folk love North Weald. It means an awful lot to many of us.

Well its life is about to come to an end. There is just one tiny grain of hope and it needs your letters TODAY to be sent to Epping Forest District Council.

Addresses to write to are at the bottom of this page:
http://www.northwealdairfield.org/Campaign/campaign.html

If you are like me, you probably cannot be bothered and are relying on everyone else to help. Well this time I made an exception and wrote. Please just write one sentence saying you object to it. It should take a couple of minutes, that’s all.

Thank you
Janie

Me208, I know of a chap who has one of these in bits in Guernsey, he has no intention of rebuilding it, but won’t let it go to someone who would.

YakRider, in the photo of the plane line-up, what’s the German-marked aircraft? Is it a Nord 1102 (Me208)??

Might not be in focus but the shot is rather evocative 🙂

http://www.avsoft.co.uk/shuttle/nwspit.jpg

However, I had set the wrong white balance for a few of my shots. I’ve tried correcting with colour balance in PSP but to no avail. For example (my conveyance for the day)

Help! What do I do to correct this problem?
