North Weald Diary 2014

Hi all, is there anyone down at North Weald to add piccys here to be like the DUXFORD DIARY which is very informative and interesting.
Maybe my nudge will bring some shots in, I have heard Red Gnat out and about on the scanner a little while ago.
just a thought .

Love the pictures of the Dragonfly. Always had a soft spot for the DH biplane twins of that era.

So it’s in good hands then. Still remember my flight in it at a Moth Club event at Old Warden and good value at £60.

Dragonfly is now with the Shipping and Airlines collection at Biggin Hill.

Quite the best looking of the DH twins. 😉

Thank you from me too. I must try and pick a nice sunny day next year and have a wander around again.
Happy New Year.

Can’t get enough of the Dragonfly. Did it change hands as I believe it was up for sale recently? Agree with the previous posters, please keep up the good work on the photo updates and I look forward to your efforts in 2015

Just as DCW, Duxman and Penpusher are quite rightly thanked for their input with the Duxford thread, I’d like to say thank you YakRider for the excellent coverage and updates of the comings and goings at Weald – an airfield I don’t get to visit as often as I’d like.

Happy New Year!

Tuesday 30 December

The Singapore Strikmaster is not out that often, so was a welcome sight on Tuesday when it did a local flight and some circuits.

Lobster …..but it’s not a Rapide. It is a de Havilland twin but an even rarer beauty, a Dragonfly (as the OP mentioned). One of only two worldwide and the sole UK based example.

Sunday 9 November

Sunday was a very busy day with almost 200 movements as people took advantage of the good weather. Our Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force Bulldog went to Stow Maries.

We also had a visit from the de Havilland Dragonfly G-AEDU, now based at Biggin Hill. A lovely aeroplane!

Indian-built, according to the team now, but possibly assembled from British components.

Aha, most likely as the RAF never bothered with the single seater but India did and developed it into the HAL Ajeet.

Excellent news that the Gnat team have found a single-seater. Now if they could find a Folland Midge they’d have the set.

Considering the scale of The Vulcan, anything is possible… be great with a Dakota, Sunderland and Hastings in time for the Berlin airlift 70th…

re;

There’s no room next to the Hastings! 😉

Plus NAM opted not to pursue them several years ago, when they we offered for disposal.

Pity. I was speaking to a veteran who came back to England in one after 4 years as a POW.
