North Weald Question

In the mid 50’s(54-56) my parents used to have a drive out to a pub near Nort Weald Airfield. Parked close up to the perimeter fence was about a dozen
single engined aircraft with wings folded and looking somewhat shabby. I presume they must have been either ex Korean War Sea Fury’s or Fireflies. This begs the question. What were FAA aircraft doing dumped at an RAF Station? This question has bugged me for years now. Can anyone solve this for me?
