As an aviator forced from West Malling for houses to be built, I can empathize with everyone at North Weald.

As a former Flt Lt I would hate to see yet another former WWII RAF airfield such as North Weald disappear under a mass of new build houses devoid of character, community spirit or substance.

As a Civil Engineer I fully understand why the Government has policies that protect the countryside and expect developers to re-use existing sites.

As a resident of a house that has been built on Green Belt, whilst I find it difficult to agree with the current planning regulations, we do need to find somewhere to build new homes for future generations.

Philosophically speaking, when married couples decide to divorce the last thing on their minds is, ‘if I get a divorce, the family will need two homes to live in rather than one. If we do that they will probably have to dig up North Weald’.

Sorry folks, the harsh reality is in WWII few had chance to get divorced before they were KIA. Now that we are not fighting with our European neighbours we are fighting ourselves and for that we need to turn the battle grounds of the past into the battle grounds of the present.

The Save West Malling Action Group fought for many years to no avail. Developers and local planners will use a full arsenal of ploys to achieve their goal once they have decided the fate of a location. If the planners have got North Weald down for development then is little that can be done.

I will say that occassionally an achilles heel can be found and exploited but solid knowledge is needed and fire proof case. I wish everyone good fortune in their stand against the proposed development.

Been mentioned here before but North Weald Airfield is under threat from building development. 6000 houses and a park and ride scheme are planned for the site. Objectors have until March . See:- http://www.northwealdairfield.org/

Hi MMitch, Its a bloody sad fact this country does not care about our History, its all in the past, as I was told by the BBC and local T.V in East Anglia. when I asked for thier help with a project. It makes you wonder why so many people gave their lives for this country, to keep it British :p If it was not for people like yourself and many others in this counrty we would have no History, But I wish you all the luck in the world, sorry about the rant but I feel we are losing are History and that makes me sick to be British 🙁

I don’t understand why all these extra houses need to be built in the area. The M11 was recently widened to reduce the traffic jams around the Stansted junction and now they want to make even more traffic.
Another problem looms, the M11 passes between IWM Duxford and an industrial site. It will have to be widened there for all the extra traffic, won’t it?
An unelected quango thought this up and it shows.

Possibly, the only was to prevent/delay the destruciton of the airfield is to ensure that John Prescott loses his parliamentry powers. He should not be allowed to fly if he is happy to destroy aviation. He is also destoying the country’s war history. This is way more damaging than wearing an swastika armband to a fancy dress history.
