Norton Internet Security – Ongoing Problem

Hi

I bought this computer a few months back, and installed a 2005 version of Norton on it. However, theres been a lot of problems and annoyances with it lately. This keeps coming up:

It is absolutely annoying. I think it changes the settings itself, it, parental control etc get turned off by itself.

I click on fix now, and it goes into a full scan, and at the end of it nothing shows up, no corrupted files or anything, so don’t know what the problem is.

We even called a computer doctor 2 months ago, he fixed it but it’s popped up again! Anyone know what is wrong?

Thanks in advance.

^^^ err … u CAN reinstall windows on a second hard drive even if u have a single user pack …… you do not have to buy a whole new copy of windows every time your hard drive crashes 😀

well id recommend you letting go of Northan Internet security it aint worth having even if its working i use to have it installed on my computer it worked fine but could not remove the simples viruses and it said it romeves torjan horses and hacktools and it said on the box after a while it said it deleted it and i did a scan again it still showed up it is still there then my harddrive got destroyed so i bought a new one. And then i was going to buy a new PC and i wonted to look at some magazines for some parts maybe to even upgrade my current and then i saw this DVD i got for free and it had all these free trails and i tried ZONEALARM it was the best i had somevirsues like hacktools it go rid of that and everything it blocks everything spyware what ever and when my trail ran out i bought it for 49.95 US Dollars on the internet and i download it and it is the best. Beacuse Northon has close ties with Microsoft beacuse if you look at all there Tests they have done and they got all best results beacuse they are all Microsoft tests and Bill Gates gets out something of that beacuse when you harddrive goes you have to buy a new Windows Licenses key except if you get from someone a multiuser like i did but for people who are Single user PC they have to buy a brand new one and it costs around 100 dollars and that goes directly to Bill Gates and he makes money out of that so i wouldnt trust Northen.

Here it is, I ran a scan on AVG Free and got rid of the viruses, yet stupid Norton is still coming up with this.

that is because you still havent uninstalled NIS from your system ….. the internet security and the protection centre are still installed in your system ….

btw the message that u are getting means that the software is currently turned off … check out the red x on the yellow globe like circle icon ….

neways , if you want to uninstall NIS and also th eproitection centre , go to www.symantec.com/autotools and download or else directly run , the file “symnrt” which stands for smantec norton removal tool (the first file)…. it will remove all traces norton form your system.

and if u have paid for the software and if its within 60 days of your purchase , you cal call norton and get a refund …… no questions asked 🙂

and please make sure that u do not run your system with 2 anti virus softwares … either keep norton or AVG …… 2 of these softwares may bog down your system …..

Seems I’m the only one on here who’s never had a problem with it since I brought it last year! 😀

Norton works very well as long as its installed cleanly ……

if you have any old verions of Norton , uninstall them using uninstallation tools available at www.symantec.com/autotools reading the instructions carefully before using an uninstallation tool helps ……

if u still have any problems , call symantec tech support ….. instead of any PC DOCTOR sumthn who dont know what they are doin ……

@ A330-300 : if you are still facing the problem , repost the pic … i may be able to help ……

Norton Internet Security

😎
Some 3 years ago I dispensed with Norton due to various problems and I now use an excellent Security and Anti Virus system.
This is a Czech Repulic system supplied as AVG Free Edition for home computers only, although you can purchase various commercial systems for business computers (Manufactured by Grisoft s.r.o.).
If you merely feed AVG into your search engine you will get all the info you require.
I have yet to experience any problem with this system – give it a try!

I use Firefox, zonealarm, spybot and adaware, and no problems at all since I changed my ‘puter last August.

Your probably all going to think that i’m really silly, but i’ve had less problems with my PC since I uninstalled all my virus protection than I ever had when I had them up and running. Another thing I did was use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.

All I have is the Zone Alarm Firewall, and everytime I log on I end all programs that I dont recognise in the Task Manager, and my PC has never ran better than since I started doing this about a year ago!

There are some great Free Security Suite you should checkout before you decide to fork out your hard earned money.

For firewall protection, I use Sygate. It’s a fantastic freeware Firewall that is quite robust and does a great job of protecting your outbound traffic. It’s no longer available on mainstream sites, but if you google around hard enough, you should be able to find it.

For Anti Virus protection, the best freeware is Avira Antivir. Antivir provides you will both a scanner and real time anti-virus guard that protects you when you are surfing the internet.

The best free Anti-trojan is Ewido. If you do things like download mp3s using Limewire or Kazaa. You’ll probably want the paid version for extra protection.

For anti-spyware/adware/scumware. Try a combination spybot and ad-aware. And if you’re using Windows XP try windows defender beta 2. All three are free.

And for protection against Rootkits. Try F-Secure Blacklight.

This may seem a lot of downloading, but your operating system will thank you for it.

You got rid of Norton altogether? What did you install after that?

Yes, it doesn’t do anything. It goes straight into scan after Live Update.
