We have finished a Nose Art panel of a Halifax – but have little background information on the aircraft or its fate.
It is a Halifax from 427 squadron with a Gil Elvgren inspired lady on the Nose. (Original Elvgren art was “Kneading a Lift”). Photo was likely 44.
Two questions:
1. It looks like a Mk3 (no additional square window) – but the groundcrew’s relative that commissioned the art says the photo was taken after servicing its Merlins – implying a Mk. 5.
2. Any idea of aircraft identity – I have checked the records for ZL – L but after removing the two known ZLL artworks (Ville de Quebec and London’s Revenge) – none of the other aircraft seem to have been around long enough to gain this many mission tallies.
