Not entirely historic, but…

Just seen a VC-10 dragging three smaller jets five minutes ago. Seemed to turn overhead RAF Wyton heading north-west ish. The three looked like Jaguars, but from a few miles away I’m not entirely sure. Any idea what, why, where from, where to…?

Nice to see my aircraft recognition skills are still up to the job. 😉

(2500 Sqn ATC, Air Britain A/C Rec Champions 1988) 😉

It’s a pity the BBC’s recognition skills aren’t! I watched the flypast on TV and they described the VC-10 as an E-3 Sentry!! 😮

Also VC10 plus 3 Jaguars at the Rolls Royce Centenary Airshow at Donnington Park at approx 1420.

They flew straight across Watford at about 12.45. I missed the 1st two sections but i saw a Tristar with a Tornado on each wing followed by a VC-10 with what looked like a Harrier on each wing then a AWACS with i think either 2 more Tornadoes or 2 Jaguars followed by another VC-10 with 2 Tornadoes then another AWACS with either 2 Tornadoes or Jaguars and i think it was a lone Nimrod bringing up the rear. I would guess them to be at 500 feet when they flew over but it looked lower.

13? It’s still more than we’ve got :p

WE use Mirrors to make it look like there are more.

Thanks guys. I think we can still just muster 13 in total, but nine of them tend to be painted red… 😉

I heard something on local radio about a practice for this flypast earlier this week

13 aircraft total, C17 as the lead ship. Formed up over Southwold in a racetrack pattern one element at a time then set off en-route. Much like the flypast a few years back that included Concorde and the Ded Sparrows.

Have we still got 13 aircraft in the RAF or have we borrowed a few from the Icelandic Airforce to help out?
