Not sticky – Peter Ayerst OTU combat

Does anyone have any information regarding the combat between three Spitfires of No 7 OTU (flown by W/C J Hallings-Pott, S/L J McLean, and F/L Peter Ayerst) and a He111 (WNr 2624, 1G+FS) of 8/KG27 on the 14th August 1940. The Heinkel had been previously engaged by Hurricanes of No 213 Sqn, and force landed at Border House Farm, nr Chester at 9pm.

Does anyone know what markings etc. the Spitfires carried, possibly individual letters only? Ayerst’s Spitfire may have been coded ‘R’ but what letters did the other two carry?

What does Peter’s book have to say about this combat?

Are there any paintings of this combat?

Geoff.

Do you recall this thread? Dean has given a description of what Ayerst’s book says

I am currently piecing together a long story on Bill Wells, one of the pupils who witnessed the fight, for my webpage
