Nov 4th with Gunfighter and Tarheel Hal

Having lunch yesterday at the local flugplatz and here comes a P51 beating up the runway… comes around, lands and taxis to the far end of the hangars. So… off we go to ck it out. (the busy grill, right on the ramp, has great B52 burgers and Nose Dive club sandwiches, and the friendly ladies there take good care of all those coming in)

The gentleman from the next hangar diligently polishing the P-51, Gunfighter, let us look her over. After a bit of conversation he said we should come back about 430pm … a P47 was coming in to join Gunfighter on the way to an airshow…

Met the pilot of P47 Tarheel Hal, who’s also the chief pilot of Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston. Tom flies their planes and teaches other to also!!!!!! Tom was very pleasant to talk to. Everyone, including the General (Gunfighter), were very courteous… Tom also has an awesome red Jeep CJ-7!

Learned from Tom that the very recently restored Spitfire (D Day vet) from west side of town was 2 hangars over, getting a brand new paint job… 😎 😀 And a Bearcat… 🙂

That’s my next sortie!!!!

PS I had to edit my image sizes down to upload, so they aren’t the best.

Jeeps and warbirds…two of my FAVORITE things in life…I have a red Jeep Wrangler. So you met Tom Gregory and general Reg Urschler, huh? Great folks, the General has a continual running battle with the SoCal wing of the CAF and particularly their Bearcat (which has smoked him in combat many times)…used to get the SoCal newsletter and it was fun to read the war of words between Gen. Reg and the California gang…great folks all around…
