Its maybe a sign that collectors have more money to spend.

The item was unique and £2000 might not be “ludicrous”, as it will only become more valuable with time (im not talking about an investment, but simply that it certainly won’t suddenly decrease).

Compared with the P-51 “project” (a few instruments and parts of the hood) resently offered for £5000 (not sold), and a few other items with ludicrous starting prices, this item found its “natural” value by bidding and not by having a crazy starting price.

£2000 would get you a lot of other nice parts, maybe even a good cockpit, but having a Halifax throttle box would be worth two non-Halifax cockpits to the serious Halifax collector.

Fair deal for both buyer and seller. Hope it gets on public display.

Well it made the reserve finishing at £2000 I think is ludicrous for that, but well done to the seller !

Many sellers on ebay will send you the reserve price via email if you ask. Often a reserve is set just to save on higher listing fees.

In case anyone is interested, this throttle box is from a Merlin engined Halifax using Rotol propellers such as the Mk II and Mk V. The glider release handle would be pointing towards the latter IMHO.

Hei,

What about this: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330223347043&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=014

Silly price? valuable for money?

Regards,

Mathieu.

No that one wasn’t a silly price thats what we in the UK call a mental price !

Nice if you have one in the shed.

A fair price, I’d say….especially if the upside down first dynasty Roman Urn and the large dog bowl, marked “Blondi”, from a certain Berlin garden are thrown in, too……..:)

In engineering terms, excellent value.

Try making one for that price.

Ebay – Where the collectors clash with the restorers/builders. 🙂

Well the recent Flight Engineers panel went for a silly price so no reason to assume this won’t go even more silly !

I wonder if the reserve has been set very high to see what it will make !

Cees I still think the Hali’s you mentioned would be a better option.. I wonder how much reserve that chap has placed on that throttle?

I would guess about £1100 or more

Yes, just read it. Someone sent me an e-mail about this site. Well, let’s hope LW170 is found and will be brought up. But if so it already has a throttle box heh heh.

And it’s reserve not met. I agree with Junk Collector.

Just to get it of my chest:p
I had been looking for a throttle box for eight years without any luck, or those exant weren’t available and now this one turns up. Anyone know who Hurricat is?
Bolyman, I suspect those Lanc bits will turn up eventually but at what price.
Cheers

Interesting cache of parts there but from the pics there doesnt appear to be anything too exciting…?

Agree, but there are boxes full of stuff and the seller seem to have no clue about whats what.

The pictures he has included seem rather random, a switch, a pump, some of the boxes (the rest is in his garage).

It might not have a great historic value, but i’m pretty sure it has a value (and more than £500). Its a lottery, but a lottery with a fair chance of breaking even (at least).
